Another bout of illness stopped us from doing many fun activities again recently. Here's some of the things we managed to do in the last 2 weeks while recovering.

We went for some nice walks and played in the playground most days.

For maths our theme was measuring width and length. We did the white rose maths activities then took it in turns to find objects to measure with the ruler. We flipped a coin between each turn to see if we had to find a bigger or smaller object. We kept getting tails so had to find some rather tiny objects!

We rolled 2 10 sided dice to get dimensions for some mouse rooms then calculated what area of carpet they need and the perimeter for what length of grippers they’ll need.
We measured a room in our house and talked about different units of measurement then we calculated the area and perimeter.
We drew around Vinnie and measured how tall and wide he is and then Vinnie decorated the picture of himself.

We read more articles about space. We chatted about Halley’s comet and wondered how they knew how long the sun would burn for. We read about the moons and planets of our solar system and looked up some pictures and sounds recorded by the rovers on mars.

Vinnie did a space themed word search and dot to dot and made a dot to dot for me to do too!

We read about the Lunar new year and the traditions associated with it. Vinnie drew a beautiful picture of himself in new clothes and with his name written in Chinese kanji. He copied one of the facts we had read about. He used some fun new colour changing pencils he got for a New Years present.

We read a lovely book about the moon together.

We made a dial for phases of the moon and have started making a note of what the moon looks like on the rare occasions it’s been clear enough to see it.

We read a fun book about maths called Molly and the mathematical mystery by Eugenia Cheng.

Vin matched some facts to the correct planets from our solar system.

He practiced a bit of handwriting in his handwriting book and then wrote a little bit about a game he’s been playing.

Vinnie made a fact sheet for a ‘newly discovered’ planet.

He also filled in a sheet where he had to name and colour the planets.
