2021 February 19 - 27 Free choice week !
This week was our free choice week where we do more laid back things and Vin chooses the activities that we do.
Vin had fun on a few days playing with a scientific calculator that we left lying around. He was experimenting with the different things you could do on it and asking us sums and seeing if we could figure them out before he put them in the calculator.
He got the magnetic world map out (while we tried to pack it to move!) and had fun playing with that taking the bits off and putting them back on a few times.
We had fun making a 200 piece jigsaw of Animals of the World. Vinnie got this at Christmas and we hadn't tried it yet. Vin did such a good job helping to sort the pieces and actually looking at the pictures on the bits and finding where they would go from the picture on the box. This is something he usually doesn't do when doing jigsaws so I think it shows he is improving his concentration. We completed the puzzle together and enjoyed looking at the pictures of the animals, we read all the names of the seas and oceans and continents. We were surprised to see flamingos in South America so looked that up on the computer and found there were different species of flamingos in many places in the world. Then Vin found a little lego stud to be a boat and sailed around the world with it.Vin built the frog from his new Lego Explorer magazine and read some of the information in the magazine.
Vin found a plastic pipette and poured himself a cup of water to play with it. He found the more air he squeezed out of the pipette, the more water got sucked up. I explained a bit about why that happens then left him to play with it.
We read some more of the Ingreedies book together. Vin really likes this book. We read about some of the countries and the foods there. It linked in a bit with the Elizabethan explorers we had read about too.
We watched a mystery science mini mystery to learn why don't airplanes fly into space. Then we made a little glider.
Vin noticed the garlic bread he likes contains palm oil. After learning about the rainforests last week and the deforestation due to palm oil plantations, we contacted Tesco to find out if their palm oil came from sustainable sources. Luckily it does and they do work to help make sure palm oil production is done in a way that is better for the environment.
Vin played a bit of Prodigy maths. I had set it to ask questions about shapes and adding up to 100.
We baked a giant cookie! Vin wanted to make one really big one instead of little ones.
We played outside a bit too now that the weather is getting warmer. We also read lots of books and comics and Vin played Mario Odyssey on the switch and made lots of nice lego mario courses. Back to a "normal" week next week!
