I forgot to take many photos again this month or to make a note of everything but here is a selection of highlights! We've been to the library quite a lot of times this month, Vin has read so many books. Current favourites are the Ottoline series of books and the Anna Hibiscus series. He has also chosen loads of books about vehicles. We've also been to the playground quite a lot making the most of when the weather is dry and sunny to see friends. We borrowed another different story sack from the library. This one called "The Big Red Bath". When we first read the story we tried to guess what animal would be jumping in to the bath next, and played with the cuddly toys as we went along. We enjoyed playing the board game too. We've been inventing our own games indoors and outside. We had pom pom balancing and throwing, games with balloons and bowling indoors and jumping games with the skipping rope outside.  We borrowed books and found websites all about C...

This January we have so far looked at a few different topics. They have mostly been based around Winter. We found some interesting printouts about why we have different seasons, how the Earth's rotation and the angle it tilts on its axis causes warmer and colder weather at different times of its orbit around the Sun. We filled in some quiz sheets to see what hemisphere we live in and measured the temperature outside where we live. We played a bird memory matching game I printed off from the RSPB website ages ago that we've played a few times before. It's good to try and recognise birds that we may see where we live. We went outside to be "Senses Detectives". Looking, listening, feeling, and smelling any signs of Winter. The most obvious one was feeling how COLD it is! We went and played at the playground too of course. We have been trying to spend a bit of time each week learning about emotions and how our responses to our feelings can have good or bad con...

13th November 2019 - 6th January 2020 A long update!

It has been a long time since we last updated the blog! Here's a look back at what we have been up to... In mid November, Vinnie went on his very first trip to the cinema. We went to see "Abominable" as part of the Into Film Festival.  We used all of the educational resources available on their website before and after seeing the film. We learned about China, watched the film trailer, talked about the characters, looked on the globe, wrote facts about China and drew pictures. We played a board game and answered lots of quiz questions. As soon as we got home from the cinema, Vinnie went and made a poster all about it! He asked me to print some pictures and write the title for him and then he worked hard on his own to make a really cool poster. We visited Hever Castle and Gardens. We enjoyed walking around the gardens, solving the maze and exploring the castle.  Vin had fun in the playground and looking at the model homes. Vinnie took an interest again in learni...

Recently we have tried to get out when it's not been too wet but otherwise we've had some fun activities at home. We visited the woods to play with some friends Vin has been enjoying the Anna Hibiscus series about a little girl that lives in a country in Africa. We've been reading those as well as other books about Africa. We went to a Bridge Engineering workshop organised by the Rochester Bridge Trust. It was held at Tonbridge Castle so it was fun to see inside the castle too. We really enjoyed being told about the history of the bridges at Rochester by the "Spirit of the Bridge", looking around the exhibition, and trying out some bridge engineering for ourselves. Afterwards Vin played in Tonbridge park with his friends for ages despite the cold! Vin sent an email to the publisher of a book he liked after finding a secret message in the book, and he received some treasure in the post from the characters! Vin helped to make a Guy to burn on bonfire ...
