2 - 8 October 2023 (week 40)
We had a go at some online ‘brain break’ exercises doing different actions to super mario themed videos. We also continued our mindfulness from the smiling mind app. Vinnie drew a picture of his ‘internal weather’. We wrote down things we are grateful for and put them in our positivity jar.
We practiced counting in 10s, 20s and 100s and used this to help us estimate how many spots a cheetah had. We watched some video clips of cheetahs and practiced some column addition to work out the total numbers of spots.
Vin had a go at some scratch programming from a book and made up his own. We made spooky animations as Halloween month is upon us!
We figured out some calculations of how many molehills a robin would need to visit to get different numbers of worms. Then we found objects round the house to match the weights of a mole or a robin.
We watched the next lesson about the Earth. This time we learned about tectonic plates and what happens where two plates meet. Vinnie made a museum exhibit displaying the different types of plate boundaries with an assortment of amusing pictures!
We read some more about computers and talked about how to use the internet safely and respectfully. We also thought about how sometimes things on the internet aren’t true because anyone can make a website and also people may pretend to be someone they’re not so it’s best not to tell people personal details online unless you’re certain it’s someone you know in real life. Vin told me about how he’d seen that on Top Gear when someone had made an internet page pretending to be James May.
Vinnie did some more handwriting practice and illustrated another concept from his grammar book.
We figured out which animal could jump the furthest and recorded their jumps on a number line. We measured our own jumps and watched videos of kangaroos and springboks.
We watched some Spanish song videos about different ways to say hello.
