16 - 22 October 2023 (week 42)

 We solved some number puzzles about squirrels solving a maze and finding the route with the lowest and highest totals.

We watched a mini mystery science about how earthquakes happen. Vin watched some other mini mysteries as well.

We tried some puzzles and riddles from a game but then found the age was 14+ and they were a bit challenging for Vinnie but he had a good go and came up with some good theories.

We looked at giant armadillos and learned about how other animals use their burrows. We solved some puzzles to do with the different numbers of animals and the number of letters in their names.

We watched the next tectonics theme video. We learned about earthquakes and how they are measured. We sorted the observations on the Mercalli scale into order and Vin drew illustrations for some of them. We read about the Richter scale and how seismographs work.

Vinnie did lots of column addition and subtraction practice.

V did some handwriting practice copying some sentences and wrote the next couple of sentences to see what could happen next.

We did some puzzles figuring out how many frog eggs there were to start with if there were a certain number remaining after a certain amount of time and a different pattern was eaten each day by wasps. (Eg day 1 , 1 egg was eaten , each subsequent day, double the eggs were eaten, there were 12 left at the end of 7 days, how many to start with). Poor frogs!

Vin made a little drum kit using scratch programming. We read a bit more about different uses for computers too and recapped about how to be a considerate digital citizen.

We watched a dual language book counting to 10 little fish in English and Spanish . Then we played a game to practice recognising the numbers 1 - 10 in Spanish.

We did some activities about how to plan writing, figuring out what the purpose is and who the audience is and how that affects the way you would write it. Vinnie had a go at planning out a story using some framework questions.

We went back to the bubble themed letterbox lab we started back in the Summer. We really didn’t have much luck with the bubble mix though. We got some of the experiments to work a little bit and watched videos on their website of the ones we didn’t manage to do.

We visited the library
