 This week’s maths theme is all about Time. So of course, the first thing we needed to do was create a time machine! Vinnie made sure there were plenty of useful timey do-dads and gizmos. Then we had a selection of eras to visit by setting the specified time on the time-dial (commonly known as a “clock”). Once we successfully reached our destination, we had to look around for some sort of activity or challenge that matched where we were. For example one of the labels around the room said that Cleopatra set us a riddle, so we knew we had to try and solve that when we were in Ancient Egypt. We visited about a dozen different times and had fun acting out different historical scenarios, winning an event at the first Olympic Games, and answering questions about history. Vinnie had lots of fun pretending and making up stories as we went along.



Vin also answered a quiz about last week’s fractions and did some puzzle sheets with clocks and time telling questions. We answered a lot of riddles such as if the baker baked the cakes for 25 minutes and left them to cool for 10 minutes, they were ready at 1.10 PM, what time did they start? We also had another go at match the time game.

After somehow going missing last week, we found Vinnie’s spelling, punctuation and grammar activity book, so he did some pages from that this week in addition to his handwriting and comprehension activity books.
Vin found some sonic the hedgehog themed draw-alongs on YouTube and we had a go at drawing a picture of Dr Robotnik.

We finally got to the library, and luckily our reservations that had “timed out” were still on the shelf so we didn’t need to re-reserve them all.

 This is our last week of the year before we take 3 weeks off for Christmas and New Year. Our week started with something a bit unusual - snow! We went sledging, built a snow gorilla, had snowball fights and of course, as per our theme, built snow castles! Our theme for article of the week this week is all about the lead up to the Age of Exploration. We read about the travels of Marco Polo, the methods used for navigation, the spice trade, and the new ships the Europeans started making in the Middle Ages to help them travel longer distances. We had some more fun with numbers. We practiced more adding and subtracting within 20 and tried out some different methods of making it easier when subtracting such as breaking the number down so you can get to an easier number first then subtract the rest. 28 June - 4 July (week 26)

 A bit of a quieter week this week as we had a few family things to do. We made some lego stop motion videos. We found the youtube channel of the person from the legocon thing we watched last week and got some tips and inspiration. Then we set up our scenes and made our own. We played with lots of lego too, watched some octonauts, played some games.  We went out to a new nature area with some friends and we identified some creatures we found using google lens on the app. We think this guy is a lesser stag beetle. The first 2 strawberries from our garden were ready to eat! We also went to a wedding and Vin had fun playing with some children there.

19 - 25 June 2023 (week 25)

 This week we did some more activities about money. We practiced identifying coins and adding them up. We played Ed and Bunny go shopping. Vinnie filled in an activity sheet with lots of addition and subtraction of money. V read a couple of story books about people saving money and raising money. We also did some white rose maths activities. We did the letterbox lab experiment making a rubber band helicopter. We tried out different things to find out the best balance between size and weight of the helicopter compared to the blades.  Vinnie did some pages from his handwriting book, his comprehension activities book and his spelling practice book.  He drew some lovely fun pictures. He is very inspired by Sonic the Hedgehog at the moment so has drawn some fun scenes with the characters from the games and cartoons. We did some puzzles together.
