10 - 16 July 2023 (week 28)
This week we had a lovely outing to Port Lympne safari park. We saw lots of animals and went on a safari ride.
This week’s Bowser’s fun with numbers theme was about mass, capacity and temperature. We did some of the puzzles from white rose maths, then we went round the house and found some objects that weighed about 1 gram, 10 grams, 100 grams and 1000 grams. We held these and felt what that weight was like to hold. Then we got some other objects and decided whether we thought they were lighter or heavier than our known items and estimated their weight. It was surprisingly difficult to compare objects that were different sizes or shapes. Vinnie practiced reading different scales for mass, volume and on thermometers and practiced drawing temperatures on pictures of thermometers.
Vinnie did some handwriting practice and some comprehension and spelling activities each day.
We did some beach time themed activities. Vinnie designed some surf boards, spotted some hidden objects, and then we decorated some ice cream ‘parts’ , cut them out and played a game to assemble them.
We did the next letterbox lab experiment which involved inflating a balloon and connecting it to an un-inflated balloon to see what would happen. We tried some variations on it and vin also had more goes with our elasticopters from last time!
We did some more activities to do with positivity, we thought about the kinds of choices we can make each day and how those choices can make us and other people feel.
We planned to have an outing to Hever Castle but the day we meant to go was very rainy so we decided to finally have our space theme finale. Not quite what we had intended to do as we had booked some activities at the Science Museum in London for earlier in the year but then we all got covid so couldn’t go. Instead, we went to the planetarium at the greenwich observatory and saw a show about our Solar System and beyond. We also looked around the observatory exhibits.
