3 - 9 July 2023 (week 27)

We looked at different types of measuring and talked about what units are used for measuring different things and what equipment can be used to measure with.

We looked at some common mistakes people could make while measuring such as using the wrong units or not lining things up properly.

We worked on discovering the answer to an ancient mystery - the location of the lost city of Atlantis! We watched a video to give us an introduction to the legends and stories about Atlantis. We made a timeline of events, read some facts, and information about Plato who wrote the earliest existing information about Atlantis.

We played with our elasti-coptors some more. We tried out using different elastic bands and different numbers of bands. We took some funny slow motion videos of quite a few disastrous crashes and near misses!

Vinnie practiced some handwriting on a couple of days.

Vinnie practiced writing some sentences with speech marks, and identifying pronouns. We read about clauses in sentences.

We looked at Roman numerals and how they are made and Vinnie filled in a quiz sheet working out some Roman numerals up to 20 and writing out some numbers as Roman numerals.

We finished our investigation into the various theories about Atlantis. We looked at the potential locations that it could have been and compared it to the works of Plato and his descriptions of it to identify which could have been likely. Then we looked at the theories and watched a video about them and decided which ones we thought could be more or less plausible based on the evidence we had discovered.

Vinnie hadn’t played on his times table game Kahoot for a while so he had some time playing on that.

Vin did some puzzles about islands then wrote a newspaper article about the discovery of a brand new island.

We solved a maths mystery with a measuring theme and discovered who won the disco dance competition.

We played with the story cubes and came up with some stories together. Vinnie wrote his own story down that he made up.

We did an activity all about thinking positive and read about a situation with some events that the character was thinking about in a very negative way, and we thought of the silver linings.

We played Scrabble.
