4 - 10 April (week 14)

 This week we went on a yoga adventure with Nelson the pigeon, tried out an "Andy's wild workout" video, and danced along with some super movers times table videos.

We looked at the Mystery Science anchor activity about plants (which we meant to do before the activity the other week!).

We talked about different stereotypes we know and how stereotypes get spread and whether we can always tell what someone is like or what their favourite things are based on what they look like.

We built a model of Tower Bridge and played Ludo from the next Mystery in Time box (Victorians).


 

Vin played on the Kahoot multiplication app some more.

We read about trees and the new leaves growing for Spring and spotted lots of new shoots and leaves growing on a walk around nearby.

We read some excerpts from Anne of Green Gables and did some quiz questions about it.

We started the next letterbox lab box, all about slimes. We made a slime with shampoo, corn flour and water and explored its non-newtonian properties!


 

We read some more of the school of music book, and did some maths activity book pages.

Vin got back into chess again this week and has been playing a few games and looking at our chess puzzle book.

Vin and his daddy made a kite together - it hasn't been quite right conditions to fly it yet though!



Our plants from communigrow are growing nicely too.

 This week we did some more activities about money. We practiced identifying coins and adding them up. We played Ed and Bunny go shopping. Vinnie filled in an activity sheet with lots of addition and subtraction of money. V read a couple of story books about people saving money and raising money. We also did some white rose maths activities. We did the letterbox lab experiment making a rubber band helicopter. We tried out different things to find out the best balance between size and weight of the helicopter compared to the blades.  Vinnie did some pages from his handwriting book, his comprehension activities book and his spelling practice book.  He drew some lovely fun pictures. He is very inspired by Sonic the Hedgehog at the moment so has drawn some fun scenes with the characters from the games and cartoons. We did some puzzles together. Vinnie chose some mini mysteries to watch on mystery science, we enjoyed watching about how lego bricks were invented, and why people...

7 - 13 June (week 23) Animal-y themed and eclipse

 This week we : Baked some cookies together  Read and chatted about some lego explorer magazines about insects and polar animals  We looked up how to make an eclipse viewer. We decided on a type that projected the sun into a cereal box so we could see it. On the day of the partial eclipse it was cloudy but luckily there were enough breaks in the clouds that we did get to see the chunk taken out of the sun! Some friends also made an eclipse viewer slightly differently so we got to see theirs as well.  We looked up info about the eclipse to find out where we would have to be for the moon to completely cover the sun. We found out that even in the Arctic, where the moon would be completely in line with the sun, it wouldn't have covered the whole sun because the moon was too far from the Earth at this time. That led us to talk about perspective and how things seem larger when they are closer and can cover up more of something further away. We played on Ring Fit Adventure ...

Our theme for April is DINOSAURS! We've read some books about dinosaurs. We also found some mysterious eggs in the garden! We tried lots of different things to help the eggs hatch. We tried to crack them with different objects, throwing them onto the hard slate in the garden, even rolling them down the slide. It worked quite well to put them in warm water... The dinosaur babies were matched up to their mummy dinos! We also made plaster of paris dinosaurs: And painted them We made some dinosaur footprint fossils in play dough: We're looking forward to doing more fun dino things!
