18 - 24 April - Easter holiday

 We had this week off as an Easter break.

We went to Communigrow and a person from the West Kent Badger Group came to tell us all about badgers. There are badgers at the site too so we looked around at signs of where they had been snuffling and found paw prints in the sand trap and a couple of latrines the badgers had obviously dug fairly recently...!


We went to the seaside and had a nice day in the sun.


Other than that we took it easy and played board games and enjoyed having some time off.

 This week we did some more activities about money. We practiced identifying coins and adding them up. We played Ed and Bunny go shopping. Vinnie filled in an activity sheet with lots of addition and subtraction of money. V read a couple of story books about people saving money and raising money. We also did some white rose maths activities. We did the letterbox lab experiment making a rubber band helicopter. We tried out different things to find out the best balance between size and weight of the helicopter compared to the blades.  Vinnie did some pages from his handwriting book, his comprehension activities book and his spelling practice book.  He drew some lovely fun pictures. He is very inspired by Sonic the Hedgehog at the moment so has drawn some fun scenes with the characters from the games and cartoons. We did some puzzles together. 7 - 13 June (week 23) Animal-y themed and eclipse

 This week we : Baked some cookies together  Read and chatted about some lego explorer magazines about insects and polar animals  We looked up how to make an eclipse viewer. We decided on a type that projected the sun into a cereal box so we could see it. On the day of the partial eclipse it was cloudy but luckily there were enough breaks in the clouds that we did get to see the chunk taken out of the sun! Some friends also made an eclipse viewer slightly differently so we got to see theirs as well.  We looked up info about the eclipse to find out where we would have to be for the moon to completely cover the sun. We found out that even in the Arctic, where the moon would be completely in line with the sun, it wouldn't have covered the whole sun because the moon was too far from the Earth at this time. That led us to talk about perspective and how things seem larger when they are closer and can cover up more of something further away. We played on Ring Fit Adventure ...

Our theme for April is DINOSAURS! We've read some books about dinosaurs. We also found some mysterious eggs in the garden! We tried lots of different things to help the eggs hatch. We tried to crack them with different objects, throwing them onto the hard slate in the garden, even rolling them down the slide. It worked quite well to put them in warm water... The dinosaur babies were matched up to their mummy dinos! We also made plaster of paris dinosaurs: And painted them We made some dinosaur footprint fossils in play dough: We're looking forward to doing more fun dino things!
