1 - 10 June Vikings!

Image
We've been doing a bit about the Vikings this month so far. Neither of us really knew much about them so we're learning together. The first thing Vin did after choosing the topic was to go and make a Viking Longboat out of lego! I guess he did know something about them after all! We printed out some facts about when the Vikings came to our country. We drew a big timeline so we could get a perspective of when they came here and then stuck the key events onto our timeline. We read a bit about the Vikings, where they came from and answered some questions and Vin drew a Viking warrior. The playmobil Vikings helped us of course. We looked up pictures of foods that Vikings might have eaten and some that they wouldn't and talked about why they would have eaten certain things and what wouldn't have been available. Vin drew some pictures of the different foods and a farm and played with his Viking toys foraging and hunting to get the food. We went to the seaside (s...

18 - 31 May Trains and stuff!

Image
We had a couple of weeks of doing train themed activities and other things. I forgot to take photos for a lot of it though! We've also been reading lots of books, on the libby app as well as watching Vooks videos and other online books where we can find them. We played the Ticket to ride board game. We cut out and folded a paper train model. Vin got some wool and tied his 2 bits together so they were joined. Vin drew a funny picure of Bunny Vs Monkey from his Phoenix comic We cut out a sequence of events from George Stephenson's life and put them into Chronological order We read about Isambard Kingdom Brunel and coloured in the pictures. Vin drew a railway for his paper train to travel on. We solved a puzzle working out the missing times from a timetable. We read a pretend newspaper article about the first railway opening and answered a quiz. Vin made faces for various pieces of furniture... We read facts about train drivers and answered another q...

28 April - 17 May Animals mega theme!

Image
We spent a few weeks on this theme all about animals. It's such a broad topic we just kept coming up with ideas. We started out with Vin's jungle animals jigsaw. We did loads of pages in Vin's birds sticker book and Vin enjoyed looking up the different birds on the RSPB website and listening to their calls and watching videos of them. We used a template by the author Mini Grey to make some wonderful colourful swooping birds to decorate the house with. Vin cruised through another maths mystery! With an animal theme of course! Vin lost a tooth and wrote a beautiful note for the tooth mouse. His writing is still steadily improving. Vin decorated a balloon he had with stickers to make it into an elephant. We read the book "ish" on the library e-books site. Then we drew our own "ish" pictures. We got out the BIG ocean jigsaw we have! Vin worked really hard and managed to complete most of it on his own! We played bug bingo (this game ...
