23 September - 3 October A quieter time at home!

Image
We have had a bit more time at home in the last couple of weeks. It has been really rainy so we've had a bit of a hibernate! We read an issue of the National Geographic Kids Magazine and Vin chose an animal to draw and write its name. We practiced a bit of dividing and fractions with 12 cars, dividing them in halves, quarters and thirds and adding and subtracting. Vin has continued with some writing practice and maths activities books. We have been doing some yoga and also relaxation breathing from the Cosmic Kids Youtube channel. We have been doing lots of reading aloud - Vin read "Moomin's Pancake picnic" out loud and then we did a LOT of pancake themed maths activities from a website called "mathgeekmama". There were counting activities which also did some pincer strengthening by clipping a peg to the correct number, halving and doubling a recipe (including some fractions which we got the pattern tiles out to figure out how 2/6 is the same as 1...

16th - 21st September Mega Week of outings!

This week we have been on a lot of lovely days out! On Monday we went to Legoland. Vin loved the Dragon ride, seeing all the lego buildings in miniland and lots of other rides. He enjoyed the "Officer in Pursuit" 4D show, which is the first time he's been brave enough to go into a cinema style show. Even at Legoland he can't help but have to learn and figure things out - he likes turning the press a penny machines wherever we go and he spent a while checking out the different speeds that the gears went depending on their size! On Wednesday we went to Port Lympne. Vin enjoyed seeing the tiger and the gorillas and going on a safari ride - we went on the safari twice in the end! Vin did really well being patient watching the animals and spent a lot of time watching the gorillas particularly a baby one. He really liked the dinosaur forest too and had a lot of fun pretending to be scared of the dinosaurs! On Friday we visited Dover Castle. We explored the old castl...

24th August - 14th September Summer fun and days out

It has been a while since we updated so we have forgotten quite a few of the things that we have done! Luckily, I took quite a few photos as usual so based on the photos here is what we remember! We went on a day trip to Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre. We saw chimps, orangutans, woolly monkeys (Vinnie's favourite) and lots of other gibbons and monkeys and lemurs. We put a string in some super salty solution and watched salt crystals form on it. Then we checked it out under the microscope. We also did an experiment about evaporation. Vin has enjoyed doing a few activity books and writing practice and maths. We are still keeping it all pretty informal though as he does seem to just learn so fast when it's the right time for him so we just introduce different things and things come up in day to day life too. He does seem to be enjoying a few more focussed activities too though. We had a lovely visit to Knole Park to see the deer and play on all the trees. We wen...
