23 September - 3 October A quieter time at home!

We have had a bit more time at home in the last couple of weeks. It has been really rainy so we've had a bit of a hibernate!

We read an issue of the National Geographic Kids Magazine and Vin chose an animal to draw and write its name.

We practiced a bit of dividing and fractions with 12 cars, dividing them in halves, quarters and thirds and adding and subtracting.

Vin has continued with some writing practice and maths activities books.

We have been doing some yoga and also relaxation breathing from the Cosmic Kids Youtube channel.

We have been doing lots of reading aloud - Vin read "Moomin's Pancake picnic" out loud and then we did a LOT of pancake themed maths activities from a website called "mathgeekmama". There were counting activities which also did some pincer strengthening by clipping a peg to the correct number, halving and doubling a recipe (including some fractions which we got the pattern tiles out to figure out how 2/6 is the same as 1/3 and how we can halve or double that!) and some word problems where Vin had to figure out what sum to do and then get the answer.

We found an old circuit board and experiments book at the charity shop so got it and had a go. We learned what a circuit is, that it requires a power source, how you can "short circuit" something to skip part of the circuit e.g a bulb or a switch and experimented with using 1 or 2 bulbs.

We visited Down house, where Charles Darwin lived. We learned a bit about Darwin as a person, the kind of life he led. We saw his greenhouse and learned about some of his experiments and observations.

We had more numberblocks comic fun of course! Vin finished his spider-man writing practice book. He's enjoyed the activities in the Disney/Pixar Card collecting album that Sainsbury's sold this Summer.

Vin has been drawing lots of lovely pictures recently. Here is a picture of Bowser holding a bomb, and the Odyssey airship in the background on one side and fireballs and a bullet bill on the other!

And a picture of Donkey Kong with his treehouse and a really cute Diddy Kong in his baseball cap in the background!

Vin has also played a lot of Lego recently, he's really wanted to use his imagination a lot and it's lovely that he can have a lot of time to do that when he wants to. He's also used his Ingenious Machines set a bit and made some fun vehicles and made up race courses.

We printed out a fun Cupcake Maths activity (also from Mathgeekmama) . We got out the play money and figured out how much each cupcake would cost. This helped a bit with coin recognition as well as adding and remembering there are 100 pennies in 1 pound.

We made our own pizzas and Vin made a lot of the dough on his own, measuring ingredients and mixing them. Then decorating his pizza. (ham and black olives, no cheese ;D)

We also made rice krispie marshmallow treats.

We've read loads of books recently, we seem to have half the library in our living room! We've been spotting punctuation while we read - commas, full stops and apostrophes - and talking about what they are for.

We enjoyed the "Rumble in the Jungle" story sack. One of the books in it was about the Amazon rainforest. We had a really interesting chat about why places like the Amazon need protecting and what we can do to stop it being damaged and destroyed.
