This week’s maths theme is all about Time. So of course, the first thing we needed to do was create a time machine! Vinnie made sure there were plenty of useful timey do-dads and gizmos. Then we had a selection of eras to visit by setting the specified time on the time-dial (commonly known as a “clock”). Once we successfully reached our destination, we had to look around for some sort of activity or challenge that matched where we were. For example one of the labels around the room said that Cleopatra set us a riddle, so we knew we had to try and solve that when we were in Ancient Egypt. We visited about a dozen different times and had fun acting out different historical scenarios, winning an event at the first Olympic Games, and answering questions about history. Vinnie had lots of fun pretending and making up stories as we went along. Vin also answered a quiz about last week’s fractions and did some puzzle sheets with clocks and time telling questions. We answered a lot of riddl...

This week after our bumper-filled week last week, we took things a bit slower paced! Vinnie did very well at a quiz about capacity, volume and temperature to recap the previous week's maths theme. This week was about fractions. We did loads of the white rose maths activities and Vinnie enjoyed reading his "fractions in disguise" book as well. Vin practiced his handwriting and did a couple of the comprehension activities.  We had a fun time making a glove pipe instrument from the letterbox lab. We couldn't quite figure out how to make it make a noise at first, so when it did finally blast out it's squeaky tune we were very surprised! It was funny to be able to feel the sound waves too where the part of the glove buzzed over the end of the tube. We did some positivity activities all about giving things a go.  We played games in the garden and had fun with bubbles.

This week we had a lovely outing to Port Lympne safari park. We saw lots of animals and went on a safari ride. This week’s Bowser’s fun with numbers theme was about mass, capacity and temperature. We did some of the puzzles from white rose maths, then we went round the house and found some objects that weighed about 1 gram, 10 grams, 100 grams and 1000 grams. We held these and felt what that weight was like to hold. Then we got some other objects and decided whether we thought they were lighter or heavier than our known items and estimated their weight. It was surprisingly difficult to compare objects that were different sizes or shapes. Vinnie practiced reading different scales for mass, volume and on thermometers and practiced drawing temperatures on pictures of thermometers.  Vinnie did some handwriting practice and some comprehension and spelling activities each day. We did some beach time themed activities. Vinnie designed some surf boards, spotted some hidden objects, and the...

We looked at different types of measuring and talked about what units are used for measuring different things and what equipment can be used to measure with. We looked at some common mistakes people could make while measuring such as using the wrong units or not lining things up properly. We worked on discovering the answer to an ancient mystery - the location of the lost city of Atlantis! We watched a video to give us an introduction to the legends and stories about Atlantis. We made a timeline of events, read some facts, and information about Plato who wrote the earliest existing information about Atlantis. We played with our elasti-coptors some more. We tried out using different elastic bands and different numbers of bands. We took some funny slow motion videos of quite a few disastrous crashes and near misses! Vinnie practiced some handwriting on a couple of days. Vinnie practiced writing some sentences with speech marks, and identifying pronouns. We read about clauses in sent...

Vin had a lot of books he wanted to read this week so other than that, we stuck to the basics! We did lots of times table games and practice.  We read about grammar and spelling and punctuation, and Vinnie did activities from his handwriting, SPaG and comprehension activity books. Vin also drew lots of fun pictures and made a poster for a Friday afternoon dance party! We spent time in the garden looking after the plants and Vin had a nice time riding his bike around. Vin had fun making some videos, building some cool gravitrax courses and being his usual imaginative self :) Books: The ship of doom Bennett, M.
