6 - 12 March 2023 (week 10)
We went for a walk to the nearby playground for a play. We noticed lots of the leaf buds on the trees and plants are starting to change.
Vin filled in a page of his maths practice book, giving directions to a character through a maze. Then we read some pages in his once upon a time map book, following the directions and coordinates and using the scale and key to find the right path.
We did the mystery science lesson ‘why do the stars change with the seasons?’. We made a model of the earth orbiting the sun and the constellations that are visible. We finally solved the mystery of the concentric circles in our star trails anchor activity - the photo was taken looking north so the North Star in the middle does not leave a trail as the earth spins as it is always in the same place relative to Earth.
We worked together to make a game called Space Tacos 🌮 from the Scratch book. Vin then had an experiment changing various things about it to see what happened.
Vin practiced some handwriting from the book.
We watched some cosmic kids videos each day about different mindfulness activities.
We went out with the camera and took some pictures of some squirrels and birds in the nearby trees.
We took it in turns to choose a shape tile and some cards from the robot mouse set to show quarter turns clockwise or anti-clockwise and then the other person had to figure out what the shape would look like.
We practiced our directions to lead each other through mazes in a book and then around the house.
We read about how astronauts can be affected by dehydration and how to avoid it.
We read a book together about feelings and thought about why astronauts would need to be good at managing their emotions and communicating with others while in space on the ISS for example.
We picked up some more mystery stories from the library .
We did a page from the ‘comprehension’ activity book and then we practiced writing clear instructions for each other and our reading comprehension by making treasure trails around the house.
We read more about the rings of Saturn and about star gazing and which stars are nearest to our sun.
We went for a walk in the rain. It was nice to hear the sound of the raindrops and the water running in the drains.
We did some puzzles from the Sherlock bones maths book.
We took it in turns to pick out 2 dominoes and make numbers from them (left side tens, right side ones) then subtract the smaller number from the larger, writing them out in Vin's maths book as colunns. Then we chose fun actions to do for the tens and ones in our result.
We had a recap about nouns, adjectives and verbs. Then we played the mystery object game, we took it in turns to put a small object in a bag without the other person seeing it. Then the other person felt it and had to write a sentence describing it.
We read some articles about space suits and space walks (or extra-vehicular activities!) .
Vin filled in an activity sheet. We used google maps to match some capital cities to their country.
We did a maths mystery, solving groups of maths problems to crack the codes and eliminate suspects of who stole the football!
We watched lots of videos about life on the ISS. We saw all the different parts of the space suits the astronauts wear outside the ISS on spacewalks, we had a tour of some of the areas in the ISS and we watched how astronauts do daily activities.
Vinnie put together some of the things we have learned so far about being an astronaut and wrote a letter from the point of view of being on board the ISS. He typed it all out himself and then I helped show him how to add line spaces so that it was more readable.
Vin wrote down what he had enjoyed doing this week and drew a picture.
