12 - 18 September 2022 (week 37)
We read a book together about Spanish, where it’s spoken, some Spanish phrases and differences between the different countries where they speak it. We looked at the Spanish speaking countries on the globe.
Then we used some other Spanish word books to solve a puzzle matching up Spanish words for foods with the English ones.

We cut out circles from coloured card and used them to inspire a picture.
At communigrow vinnie helped cut back some wildflowers so they wouldn’t spread their seeds and take over the area as they were stopping other wildflowers having a chance to grow. Then he dug up some comfrey from an area that is going to have a new pond and chopped the leaves into bits and put them in a barrel to rot down into fertiliser.
Vinnie chose a meal to cook this week - he wanted to make a roast chicken. He wrote a shopping list of all the ingredients and then prepared the meal when they had arrived. He peeled apples and chopped them to make an apple sauce. He calculated what time the different items had to go into the oven. He peeled the parsnips and helped prepare the other ingredients. It was a very fancy meal.
We had a recap about seeds and how plants disperse them in different ways as we have been seeing lots of different types of seeds out and about.
We had a look at some different books about coding in the scratch programming language. Vin signed up for an account on the website and had a go at experimenting with some simple animations.
The next letterbox lab experiment was fun - we made some glow liquid and saw how the uv torch made it light up, as well as how fibre optic cables can work.
We had a look on the Chatham dockyard website and looked at the timeline of the dockyard’s history. It’s been there for over 400 years.
Vin found some pictures on the internet of super mario characters that he liked and we printed them out and made a reversed version too so he could cut them out and glue them together with a front and back . Then he drew some scenery and made little scenes with them.
We visited chatham dockyard and had a nice day exploring the ships and lifeboats and admiring the models and paintings. We saw an exhibition about the underwater archaeology involved in excavating the wreck of the HMS Invincible and watched a demonstration of rope being made in the quarter mile long rope walk.
