24 - 30 January 2022 (week 4)

 This week we went on a few walks including finding a few geocaches! It's been a while since we looked for any. While out walking we saw someone had decorated their front step with "Happy Pongal!". We looked up what Pongal was and found out it is a Hindu harvest festival. We also walked through the orchards and saw all the trees and looked at how they trimmed some of them into specific shapes, some were cut right back so they had a lot of branches and some were trained along wires.

We built a new Lego boost model and spent quite a lot of time building different bits for it and programming the different things and experimenting.



 

We read a book called "Remainder of One" together and did the maths along with the story and talked about how you could divide numbers by other numbers but if they don't divide exactly there are some left over.

Vinnie wrote two thank you notes this week for his handwriting practice and also a birthday card.

We visited a nearby park where Vin played with his friend and we went for a walk around the woodland area.

We went to the library and got lots of new books and Vin spent a lot of hours reading over the week.


 

Vin and Grandpa finished their helicopter model! 


 

We did a lot of lego building, even by our standards!


 

We did a hey duggee workout and a cosmic kids yoga adventure.

We learned about positive and negative thoughts and how to encourage ourselves and others when we find things difficult when we're learning things or other times.


 

We did some magic with our letterbox lab! We charged up a balloon with different materials and made feathers float, then charged up the wand and did the same. We traced the little characters onto tissue paper and glued their feet down then made them dance too. We read about what static electricity is.



 

We did another sheet of fractions.


 

We did the next School of Music lesson, all about instruments that are played with keys. We listened to a Bach piece played on harpsichord and some different synthesiser music. 

We did another 4 sets in 4 minutes of questions, adding in 5s to 100.

 This is our last week of the year before we take 3 weeks off for Christmas and New Year. Our week started with something a bit unusual - snow! We went sledging, built a snow gorilla, had snowball fights and of course, as per our theme, built snow castles! Our theme for article of the week this week is all about the lead up to the Age of Exploration. We read about the travels of Marco Polo, the methods used for navigation, the spice trade, and the new ships the Europeans started making in the Middle Ages to help them travel longer distances. We had some more fun with numbers. We practiced more adding and subtracting within 20 and tried out some different methods of making it easier when subtracting such as breaking the number down so you can get to an easier number first then subtract the rest. 28 June - 4 July (week 26)

 A bit of a quieter week this week as we had a few family things to do. We made some lego stop motion videos. We found the youtube channel of the person from the legocon thing we watched last week and got some tips and inspiration. Then we set up our scenes and made our own. We played with lots of lego too, watched some octonauts, played some games.  We went out to a new nature area with some friends and we identified some creatures we found using google lens on the app. We think this guy is a lesser stag beetle. The first 2 strawberries from our garden were ready to eat! We also went to a wedding and Vin had fun playing with some children there.

19 - 25 June 2023 (week 25)

 This week we did some more activities about money. We practiced identifying coins and adding them up. We played Ed and Bunny go shopping. Vinnie filled in an activity sheet with lots of addition and subtraction of money. V read a couple of story books about people saving money and raising money. We also did some white rose maths activities. We did the letterbox lab experiment making a rubber band helicopter. We tried out different things to find out the best balance between size and weight of the helicopter compared to the blades.  Vinnie did some pages from his handwriting book, his comprehension activities book and his spelling practice book.  He drew some lovely fun pictures. He is very inspired by Sonic the Hedgehog at the moment so has drawn some fun scenes with the characters from the games and cartoons. We did some puzzles together.
