22 - 28 November (week 47)

 This week for writing practice, we printed out some words to trace and copy from the letterjoin website on a few days.

Vinnie wrote a thank you card to his auntie and uncle.

We finished our mystery science lesson we started last week and chose some suitable energy sources for Boulderville!


 

We did a "TEAM" activity about listening. We talked about how we can show someone we are listening, why it's important to listen, in which situations it's important to listen carefully. We practiced making block towers by listening to the instructions from the other person, we played ag ame with different instructions for specific words and had to listen to what they called out and do the correct action



We did some cooking at Communigrow this week. We made pumpkin pancakes and potato scones. Vinnie peeled and chopped potatoes, as well as mixing the batter for the pancakes and frying one on the camping gaz stove.




 

We read a frog and toad story and did a recap of what we've already learned - what the title, author and characters are, nouns, and punctuation.

We read the next lesson on School of Music which was about plucked instruments. We looked up some pictures of the various instruments from around the world and listened to some of them. 

We practiced the ukulele by watching a youtube video about how to pluck and strum.

We did mission 3 of Lego Build to Launch all about teamwork! We heard about how the different teams at NASA and other space organisations have to communicate and work together on many different parts of building the space craft and getting it to the point of launching. We worked together and communicated while Vinnie built an orion spaceship and I built a space launch system and made sure it connected together properly.


We did some puzzles from Vin's Aztecs magazine from his Mystery in time box.



We read about moss and lichen from the exploring nature with children book and read 2 poems about November and looked at the artwork from those weeks. We'll be on the look out for mosses and lichens next time we go for a walk!

We did the 3rd experiment from Vin's letterbox lab box 1. We made some spinners to see what would happen when colour segments spun!




We did some drawing along with one of the Draw with Rob videos on youtube and Vinnie drew a self portrait!

 This is our last week of the year before we take 3 weeks off for Christmas and New Year. Our week started with something a bit unusual - snow! We went sledging, built a snow gorilla, had snowball fights and of course, as per our theme, built snow castles! Our theme for article of the week this week is all about the lead up to the Age of Exploration. We read about the travels of Marco Polo, the methods used for navigation, the spice trade, and the new ships the Europeans started making in the Middle Ages to help them travel longer distances. We had some more fun with numbers. We practiced more adding and subtracting within 20 and tried out some different methods of making it easier when subtracting such as breaking the number down so you can get to an easier number first then subtract the rest. 28 June - 4 July (week 26)

 A bit of a quieter week this week as we had a few family things to do. We made some lego stop motion videos. We found the youtube channel of the person from the legocon thing we watched last week and got some tips and inspiration. Then we set up our scenes and made our own. We played with lots of lego too, watched some octonauts, played some games.  We went out to a new nature area with some friends and we identified some creatures we found using google lens on the app. We think this guy is a lesser stag beetle. The first 2 strawberries from our garden were ready to eat! We also went to a wedding and Vin had fun playing with some children there.

19 - 25 June 2023 (week 25)

 This week we did some more activities about money. We practiced identifying coins and adding them up. We played Ed and Bunny go shopping. Vinnie filled in an activity sheet with lots of addition and subtraction of money. V read a couple of story books about people saving money and raising money. We also did some white rose maths activities. We did the letterbox lab experiment making a rubber band helicopter. We tried out different things to find out the best balance between size and weight of the helicopter compared to the blades.  Vinnie did some pages from his handwriting book, his comprehension activities book and his spelling practice book.  He drew some lovely fun pictures. He is very inspired by Sonic the Hedgehog at the moment so has drawn some fun scenes with the characters from the games and cartoons. We did some puzzles together.
