8th July - 21st July
During this couple of weeks we have done lots of fun things!
Vin really liked a book about the World's fastest machines. He read it all to me and then we found videos online of the world's fastest rollercoasters.
We went to the library and got a couple of new story sacks.
One is called "teddy takes a tumble" and is about being safe on and near roads.
Vin liked strapping teddy into his car seat! We read the story and answered the quiz, then played the board game. Vin read the accompanying book about road safety.
We did a lot of lego building too. Vin made a town called "Cutesville". He made up lots of stories with the minifigures.
We visited friends and built lego there too. Vin got a new book of ideas for machines you can build with lego. He had a go at a few of them.
The other story sack was called "We all went on Safari". It had a story book, a fabric mat with velcro pieces to attach with different numbers of animals, and a dominoes game. First thing Vin wanted to do was make up his own game - we took it in turns to roll a dice, then put the animal that matched that number onto the right place on the mat. We rolled 2 dice for numbers over 6. The book taught us the numbers 1 to 10 in Swahili as well as some Swahili words for animal, information about the Maasai people and Tanzania.
We built a buggy with a battery motor and modified it to do wheelies.
We went to Teston country park and watched people going through the lock.
We made up a secret code using 26 animal stampers to represent letters of the alphabet. Then we wrote each other lots of coded messages and hid them for the other person to find and decode.
We went to the library and started their "Summer Reading Challenge". This years theme is Space Chase. Vin went on a trail round the library to find all the characters and wrote down their names. We found activities on the website too and Vinnie designed his own alien character.

We bought some dice with 10 sides to make up new games with. We rolled 2 dice and added them together then had to pick up beads with a big pair of tongs.
Vin completed an addition and subtraction sheet with bubbles to fill in the answers, then we went and blew lots of bubbles outside.
We visited Hargate Forest and found an old tractor in the woods and played by the ponds and with bits of wood.
Vin's enjoyed the new episodes of Numberblocks. They are so good for helping children understand numbers!
When it rained we did Cosmic Kids Yoga adventures and the yoga disco which Vin enjoys. We also did a Mystery Science activity about Butterflies. We learned about their camouflage and made our own butterflies and a card.
We made cookies.
And looked at interesting creatures outside.
Vin had a lot of fun building machines with his cogs.
We went To Bedgebury Pinetum. There was a fairly new series of geocaches there. I made a little trail to work with the geocaches where Vinnie had to find them to find "Shines" from super mario. On each shine was a pair of letters and the final cache contained the clue how to work out where Bowser's treasure was hidden. Vin enjoyed finding all the shines and solved the mystery! During our trip, the route also followed some of the "Art of Trees" outdoor exhibition which Vin really enjoyed looking at too.
We played the Swahili dominoes game from the story sack.
Vin enjoyed an Optical Illusions book he was given.
We went to cobtree Manor park to play and explore.
