22nd - 28th July - Top Gear themed week!

Last week, Vinnie wrote a very polite letter to Bowser, asking him if we could do some Top gear activities. Bowser was happy to oblige! We did a variety of car and vehicle themed activities including some Top gear style challenges presented in a mystery envelope... We designed our own cars using Lego, The Mega Truck and the Corn cob car. Vin cut out some statements about being a good sport when playing games. The Top Gear team have lots of competitions so it's important they know how to behave graciously when they lose! We arranged the bits of paper into behaviours we expect and behaviours we don't expect. Vin made a poster of the Swahili numbers for 1 to 10 for Stig's African cousin. Vin enjoyed watching some different kinds of vehicles out of our window! Workmen were repairing parts of the road so there were a lot of different machines. Vin made another creation from his Lego machines book. A pully and ramp. Vin did a trail to find 5 cars that I had hi...

During this couple of weeks we have done lots of fun things! Vin really liked a book about the World's fastest machines. He read it all to me and then we found videos online of the world's fastest rollercoasters.  We went to the library and got a couple of new story sacks. One is called "teddy takes a tumble" and is about being safe on and near roads. Vin liked strapping teddy into his car seat! We read the story and answered the quiz, then played the board game. Vin read the accompanying book about road safety. We did a lot of lego building too. Vin made a town called "Cutesville". He made up lots of stories with the minifigures. We visited friends and built lego there too. Vin got a new book of ideas for machines you can build with lego. He had a go at a few of them. The other story sack was called "We all went on Safari". It had a story book, a fabric mat with velcro pieces to attach with different numbers of animals...

We had another lovely day out at Herstmonceux. They were running a show about Isaac Newton and some bridge building activities for Home educating families. Vin had a great time playing with all the exhibits and building an Arch Bridge and a Truss bridge. We enjoyed doing some activities from the Zog trail activity pack. We also played games in the garden to practice counting in 2s 5s and 10s as well as trying to do a few times tables. Vin did some of his activity book about halves. We got some new pattern blocks and small mirrors taped together to have some fun making patterns. Vin's imagination was awesome at making fun pictures with the tiles! He found it interesting as well how making a pattern with the parallelograms made it look like a 3D shape. He asked if this was an optical illusion. We went to Bedgebury and had a nice day playing and spotting butterflies, listening to the crickets and watching some people felling an area of trees and putting them in the wood chi...
