12th September - 24th September 2018
Our Ancient Egyptian theme is starting to slow down a little bit and seems to be changing into more things about feelings, mindfulness and understanding how our brains work. As we are now in Autumn we will probably start doing more autumn-y things too and halloween fun!
In the last couple of weeks we have:
Visited Hobbledown Farm. We learned about otters and meerkats, explored the farm, looked at grid referenced on the map to solve a quiz, listened to a story there and fed the goats willow branches. We discovered fairies and treasure and Vinnie played with his friends.

We made mummified sausages (wrapped in pastry!)

We made a giant "worksheet" with some letter, number and shape challenges on

We made lemon curd puffs

We visited One Tree Hill and found signs of autumn. We collected beech nuts, acorns and fallen leaves.

We visited the park and learned about Hedgehogs. We made origami hedgehog bookmarks and Vinnie made a clay "hedgehog rolling pin". Clay wrapped around a stick then rolled a pine cone down it to make texture. (I was boring and made a regular hedgehog out of a pinecone and clay).

We had a think about what we would put in our tombs if we were Egyptian Pharoahs.

Then we decorated a picture of a mysterious jar that supposedly has secrets inside...

Vin was inspired by some spooky lego ideas to make some ghostly things, faceless ghost minifigures, a haunted house, a vampire, and a big ferocious monster!

He still loves making different setups with his train set too.

We had a great day out at Herstmonceux Observatory and Science centre. There were so many fun activities and experiments to try out. Vin liked the water circuit a lot, as well as a big "marble run". We liked seeing the telescopes too and he did really well paying attention to a tour of the domes and telescopes.

We've done a lot of the cosmic kids yoga adventures recently too, and quite a few of the "zen den" mindfulness videos. And lots of reading books and colouring. We're still having a bit of a break from formal writing learning as it was upsetting Vin a bit but Vin is doing writing for his own ideas when he feels like it as it is a bit less pressure then!
