30th June - 7th August, a mishmash of things!
Since getting back from holiday we have flitted between lots of different things with no particular theme! Vin has started getting more ideas of things he's interested in to investigate in the near future, so now seems a good time to list some of our recent activities.
Vin and his dad made a foam airplane and watched it float:

We went for a walk on broadwater warren RSPB reserve and found the old tank turret:

We did lots of geocaching, including some nice walks and some fun finds!

We saw tiny frogs as small as bugs:

We visited hastings and went on the rides and visited the lifeboat station. While there we learned a lot about water safety and also saw a real life rescue in progress.

Vin scooted around a couple of skate parks

We checked out a cool statue of Arthur Conan Doyle

We did drawing and painting:

We played with pouring water

We made a little scene from the sarah and duck comic (and also done lots of other activities from comics and magazines)

We visited the historic dockyards at Chatham and had a lovely day out. During our day, we went aboard 2 ships and a submarine, learned about what life would have been like on board, tried out some knots, saw some cool model boats and paintings, saw loads of old life boats and got to go on board a couple of them, had a go at the skills involved in making a ship and saw a exhibit of moments in history recreated in lego bricks (and had fun building with some ourselves)!

Back at home we learned a bit about how you could communicate with people if you were on one of those ships miles out to sea. We learned a bit about telegraphs and morse code. Vinnie made his name in morse code using beads for dots and paper clips for dashes.

We found some beautiful butterflies at the park

Vin made an awesome den at his friend's house. And about a dozen dens at home.

We went on many woodland walks with friends(it's good to be in the shade - it's been so hot!), to broadwater warren again, southborough common, and Oldbury Hill.

We made a cake

We found things from the garden to look at under the microscope. We even found a dead bee to examine.

We found some amazing dragonflies and bees at the park.

We made some good constructions out of shapes.

Vin started getting interested in optical illusions. We are going to do some more about that soon.

We went for a walk at Eridge Rocks. Vin played with friends for most of the time but afterwards we went back on our own and had an investigation! Vin wanted to try and make a catapult with some very large sticks.

We made a smaller catapult at home

We did the brass rubbing trail around the park

And went to Bedgebury pinetum, more dragonflies!

Vin visited the model boat club with his Grandpa and Oma. He even had a go at controlling some of the boats.

We built a duplo pyramid. Vin wants to learn about Egypt some more. (we did a theme before, he obviously really liked it)

Vin completed the Summer Reading Challenge at the library:

He's also been doing more writing practice but I have stopped bothering to take pictures of that. Vin is reading non-stop. If there is a book nearby he is drawn to it like a moth to a flame! It is so fun hearing about all the stories he has read. His favourite ones recently have been the Shifty McGifty and Slippery Sam books. Both the picture books and the longer chapter books.
For the next few weeks, we are going to learn some more about Ancient Egypt, try making our own optical illusions and carry on with writing practice. Vin seemed to start getting the hang of telling the time while we were on holiday so we may make a clock as well and do a few things about time. That's if he doesn't totally change his mind overnight about what he is interested in!
