Mini heatwave = fun outside

The last week has been beautiful and warm which has meant lots of time outside. Also...

Vinnie has made some cute lego figures this week. He made a koopa trooper with eyes that could move up and down and when it turned its head, the shell turns too. He also made Donkey Kong and a treehouse for him.

We have really enjoyed the book "Maths Adventure". It covers all different aspects of maths - shapes, measuring, time, adding etc. We have done the first couple of pages. It has puzzles and flaps to lift to explain the answers. Vin enjoyed using our blocks to make the shapes shown on the shapes page. On another day he drew lots of the shapes.

The volunteering task was a bee survey and a butterfly walk. Vin stayed all day again and did really well even though there was a LOT of walking!

At art group, Vinnie was in the mood to draw Lego minifigures! He drew 4 different minifigures. He really wanted to draw the new firework rocket guy figure. He kept trying to draw the shape but was finding it really difficult to draw what he wanted to. He found it so frustrating but kept at it and finally managed to draw what he wanted! He then drew a Superman minifigure next to it. Vin can feel so proud of himself for not giving up.

The warm weather was a good excuse to have some fun with water. The dinos and sea creatures wanted to come out to play too. And of course they needed some food so in went some water beads! The crab was the captain of a food delivery ship. Vin picked out just some orange and yellow beads to be lemons and oranges.

We also did some comics outside as it is so warm.

We have decided to start a few more "formal" lessons for handwriting. We are going to try and spend a short time on a few days a week practicing how to write letters the "proper" way. We started out with the test to see if Vin was ready to learn. (Well...to see if Donatello the turtle was ready anyway!)

Hopefully the lessons are short enough and quite fun so he will be keen to have a try.

We also did a Mystery Science lesson about "How did a tree travel halfway around the world?". It was good fun and we made our own rotocopter seeds. They span really well! Later in the week we may do the additional reading for the activity and make a couple of other types of seed too.
