Our first week "officially" home educating!

This week, Vinnie would have been due to start reception year at primary school. So that makes this our first "official" home education week! To be honest though, it was pretty much business as usual!

We have joined in with a topic theme group on facebook. This month is all about Ancient Egypt. We are often outdoors too so we're going to be looking at all the Autumnal changes. Mixed in with the usual learning whims of an inquisitive 4 year old!

This week Vinnie has been really keen to get a pet guinea pig! We got a book out of the library about them, learned what they eat and how to care for them. By a lucky coincidence, there was a magazine available all about pets that had some free toy guinea pigs with it. I think they may be a bit easier to care for than real ones for now!

Some of the things we've done over the last week:

We made a big picture with swirls on one side and stripes on the other.

We froze a mini ice skating rink for some lego minifigures:

We also watched some videos of real ice skaters and tried out some moves ourselves!

We built LOTS of lego!

We watched a video of the solar eclipse and made our own eclipse:

We played with the toy rocket and astronauts:

We found letter shapes in quavers!

We visited Sheffield Park Gardens with some friends:

We went to the playground with friends:

The toy guinea pigs did some farming:

We built a pyramid:

We learned about why people sometimes feel angry and what things we could do to help ourselves feel better. We had some funny ideas!

Vinnie's Oma came round and we learned some Dutch words.

We had fun mummifying each other! While we wrapped each other up we found out some weird facts about how the real Ancient Egyptian did mummifications.

We measured out the ingredients and made salt dough.  We had fun playing with it then we made some fun food shapes to paint another day once it has fully dried.

Plus lots of playing, reading stories and having fun! Vinnie can read so well now, it's lovely seeing him sitting reading a book to himself.
We've had a good "first" week. :)
