In the last week or so: Vin followed the instructions to build one of the "Ingenious Machines" from his set. He managed to get it working all by himself. Then he used some other parts and his imagination to make a zombie and a knight. We went to the shopping centre and searched for butterflies in the shop windows and looked at the wildlife scenese set up around the centre. We went on a wildlife expedition with an organised activity. We sorted our animal cards into two groups - ones that lived on land and ones that lived in water. We also talked about which group some animals should be in that start out life in water then go onto land or air such as frogs and dragonflies. And animals such as otters and ducks that live on the top of the water and dive down for food. We compared the groups such as which had fur and what kinds of patterns they had,  and how they moved. We each chose one water creature to draw and write a fact about. We programmed the Nintendo Switch la...

29th July - 14 August 2019 Summer

We're having a bit of a quieter time at the moment as it's nice weather and friends are not at school. We're still having lots of fun though. Vin was in charge of watering a friend's garden while they went away. He did a good job. We've played at the playground with friends and done some geocaching. Vin made some patterns and decided to try and make some nets for 3D shapes. We went and looked at lots of rocks that are local to us. We did a "Mystery Science" about where rivers go to and come from. This led to us looking at a map and finding out where the biggest river near us is, where it starts and where it goes. We looked at weather maps too. We did the associated reading and quizzes from the links on mystery science. We've got loads of story sacks from the library. We had a lot of fun with the "animal boogie" story sack, playing with the puppets and singing the song and doing the quiz questions. Vin liked playing with all t...

22nd - 28th July - Top Gear themed week!

Image
Last week, Vinnie wrote a very polite letter to Bowser, asking him if we could do some Top gear activities. Bowser was happy to oblige! We did a variety of car and vehicle themed activities including some Top gear style challenges presented in a mystery envelope... We designed our own cars using Lego, The Mega Truck and the Corn cob car. Vin cut out some statements about being a good sport when playing games. The Top Gear team have lots of competitions so it's important they know how to behave graciously when they lose! We arranged the bits of paper into behaviours we expect and behaviours we don't expect. Vin made a poster of the Swahili numbers for 1 to 10 for Stig's African cousin. Vin enjoyed watching some different kinds of vehicles out of our window! Workmen were repairing parts of the road so there were a lot of different machines. Vin made another creation from his Lego machines book. A pully and ramp. Vin did a trail to find 5 cars that I had hi...
