In the last week or so:

Vin followed the instructions to build one of the "Ingenious Machines" from his set. He managed to get it working all by himself. Then he used some other parts and his imagination to make a zombie and a knight.

We went to the shopping centre and searched for butterflies in the shop windows and looked at the wildlife scenese set up around the centre. We went on a wildlife expedition with an organised activity.

We sorted our animal cards into two groups - ones that lived on land and ones that lived in water. We also talked about which group some animals should be in that start out life in water then go onto land or air such as frogs and dragonflies. And animals such as otters and ducks that live on the top of the water and dive down for food. We compared the groups such as which had fur and what kinds of patterns they had,  and how they moved. We each chose one water creature to draw and write a fact about.

We programmed the Nintendo Switch labo game to light up sections of the screen when different buttons were pressed. Then we made a see-through underwater scene to go over the top so the light shone through it. Vinnie described the scene as "A whale shark eating krill, a sun fish, and some algae covered rocks."

We read the book "Swarm of Bees" by Lemony Snicket and did some printout activities about it.

We played a couple of dice games from the book "Oceanology" which we have been reading. We played one called "Crab" where you have to draw each part of the crab depending on which number you roll, and a game called "Shark" where you add each roll of the dice to the previous on your turn. If you roll a 1 you lose all your points. If you stop before rolling a 1 you can keep your points to add to the next turn.

Vin coloured in and did the activity on a "Safety at the Beach" sheet he got.

We went to the town again for a different wildlife themed activity. This time there were lots of games. Vin used his pocket money to buy a Go Jetters comic and did lots of the activities in that, including placing various landmarks in the right places on the map of the world.

We made a super salty sea solution and then left it on a windowsill to see what we could see!

We got a new handwriting book so Vin could spend a little time now and then practicing his handwriting.

We made our own sea creatures and thought up how they would live. I made a "bird fish". It is brightly coloured, lives near coral reefs and has a long pointy nose for poking into small spaces to eat little creatures like tiny shrimp. Vin made a "Constrictor fish". It mostly eats the leftovers of other predators meals. It lives in crevices in the twilight zone, has big eyes so it can see well in the gloom, the green bits glow in the dark, it can look behind itself, it uses its nose to make a home under the sand. It also eats squid and oysters. While we made them we talked about the ways different creatures on earth have adapted to the environments they live in.

We played hide and seek with the giant knickers from the story sack. Then we read "The Queen's Knickers" book and chose a special occasion to design a new pair of undies for her majesty! Vin wrote in extra fancy letters as they are such an important pair!

The book inspired Vin to set up a garden party for his toys. He set up lots of games too and they all enjoyed having a go at Vin's new Laser Maze that we bought at the charity shop.

We also read the story of "Badger's Parting Gifts" and Vin really liked playing with all the puppets from the story sack. We are so lucky to have such a good library network that we can borrow all these awesome books and story sacks.
