25 September - 1 October 2023 (week 39)

 We set up an obstacle course doing different actions, balancing along lines on the floor, throwing bean bags into a hoop. Then we did some mindfulness and practiced paying attention to our breath and bringing our concentration back when we felt our mind wandering.

We’re trying out a new website to inspire some of our maths activities this week. It’s called natural curriculum. We watched some videos about Adélie penguins making their nests and solved some puzzles about the number of rocks. We made up our own riddles for each other to guess a number between 1 and 100.

We read a book that was in English and Spanish. As we read we tried to see which words we could figure out in Spanish based on the English text. We also had some practice telling the time from the clocks in the pictures (in English! There was some Spanish time telling practice at the back of the book which we looked at as well). After we had read it, we chose one of the words we had translated and drew a picture of it then wrote the word underneath in English and Spanish.

We played the Pokémon card game. This helps practice some adding and subtracting as well as strategy and FUN.

 We did different actions the next day on our obstacle course and listened to a story about a volcano and how our feelings can sometimes be a bit like a volcano and erupt! We drew our own volcanoes of feelings with things that made us happy, unsettled, and angry.

We read about fairy rings and watched a video clip of different mushrooms growing. We solved some puzzles with clues to work out how many mushrooms were in each fairy ring. Then we made our own fairy ring puzzles for each other.

We started our topic about the Earth by watching a video about the layers of the Earth. We made little play dough models with each layer in a different colour. Vin played with the play dough afterwards too of course to make ice cream sundaes.

Vin drew some ideas for a video game. He came up with the playable characters and their powers, the different worlds you could visit, the villains, and the boss of each area.

Vinnie did some handwriting practice and read some of the English grammar lift the flap book, then he drew a picture to illustrate one of the things from the book. He chose to show an adverb.

We compared some bears! We put them in order of height and made our own top trumps style cards. We used the number of each letter in the alphabet to work out the value of the names of different types of bears.

We read about uses of computers and thought about the kinds of things we use computers and technology for and how we can use them responsibly. Vinnie drew a picture of a cool computer for Mungo the hippo.

We had our book club and chatted about what we’d enjoyed in some of the books we’ve recently read. And some of the cuddly toys came up with some of their own books they’d read recently. Then we chose a moment from a book that we’d liked and drew a picture of it then described how that bit in the story had made us feel and why we’d chosen it.

We went to the library earlier in the week and got a few new books too.
