26 September - 2 October 2022 (week 39)

This week we started listening to a little poem on letterjoin and writing it out. We were going to do a verse a day but managed just one! We'll try and do the other 2 next week.

We looked at a story sack called ‘we’re sailing down the Nile’. The book had lots of interesting information about Egypt and the different time periods in its history. It included a fun board game with lots of ancient Egyptian trivia.





We went to a workshop at the museum about their current exhibit of mechanical marvels. We looked at the different machines and automata and examined how they worked and made the different parts move and learned the names of some of the parts such as the axel, cams and cogs. Everyone had a go at making one of their own to add to the chain of powered up machines. Then they made their own mini jumping machine to take home. Vin made his look like super mario jumping on a goomba.






At communigrow the children worked together to build a bug hotel. They drilled holes in bricks and logs , sawed and used loppers to break branches into bits and filled a pallet with all the bits for the creatures to live in.Afterwards we picked up a few books from the library.


We went for a special outing to Legoland so had a shorter week this week. :)

 This is our last week of the year before we take 3 weeks off for Christmas and New Year. Our week started with something a bit unusual - snow! We went sledging, built a snow gorilla, had snowball fights and of course, as per our theme, built snow castles! Our theme for article of the week this week is all about the lead up to the Age of Exploration. We read about the travels of Marco Polo, the methods used for navigation, the spice trade, and the new ships the Europeans started making in the Middle Ages to help them travel longer distances. We had some more fun with numbers. We practiced more adding and subtracting within 20 and tried out some different methods of making it easier when subtracting such as breaking the number down so you can get to an easier number first then subtract the rest. 28 June - 4 July (week 26)

 A bit of a quieter week this week as we had a few family things to do. We made some lego stop motion videos. We found the youtube channel of the person from the legocon thing we watched last week and got some tips and inspiration. Then we set up our scenes and made our own. We played with lots of lego too, watched some octonauts, played some games.  We went out to a new nature area with some friends and we identified some creatures we found using google lens on the app. We think this guy is a lesser stag beetle. The first 2 strawberries from our garden were ready to eat! We also went to a wedding and Vin had fun playing with some children there.

19 - 25 June 2023 (week 25)

 This week we did some more activities about money. We practiced identifying coins and adding them up. We played Ed and Bunny go shopping. Vinnie filled in an activity sheet with lots of addition and subtraction of money. V read a couple of story books about people saving money and raising money. We also did some white rose maths activities. We did the letterbox lab experiment making a rubber band helicopter. We tried out different things to find out the best balance between size and weight of the helicopter compared to the blades.  Vinnie did some pages from his handwriting book, his comprehension activities book and his spelling practice book.  He drew some lovely fun pictures. He is very inspired by Sonic the Hedgehog at the moment so has drawn some fun scenes with the characters from the games and cartoons. We did some puzzles together.
