24 - 30 October 2022 (week 43)
This theme for this week’s article of the day is Ancient Inventions. We read about fireworks, ice skating, and soap and looked for nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs. We talked about why adverbs might appear less frequently in a factual article than a fictional story.
We read 10 facts about the festival of Diwali.
We learned how to say we like or dislike things in Spanish and practiced saying and writing some likes and dislikes.
We chose a couple of cosmic kids yoga videos to do.
Vin helped make a tuna pasta bake.
Vin wondered why we see spots in our eyes after looking at a bright light. We found a fun video explaining.
Some of Vin’s friends that are a little older recently did their 11+ tests. We had a look at some sample tests to see what kind of quiz questions they had in them and had a go at them. We did this on a couple of days to look at the different kinds of questions (maths, English, patterns etc).
We had fun acting out the Winnie the Witch book with the contents of the story sack. Then we played the magic cauldron maths game. It was a bit easy for us clever clogs (okay the suggested age is 5-8!) but we had a good time.
We learned how to look for different things in a painting or drawing by assessing the painting ‘one of the family’. Then we drew our own picture to tell a story or capture a moment . Vinnie called his ‘city at midnight’.
Vin made a randomised spinner and a little game on scratch following the ideas in the book we have borrowed. It came out really well and he had fun experimenting with trying some different things.
We had a go at PE with Joe on a couple of days as it’s been a while since they were on and we did any!
We visited knole park with friends and caught our first leaves of autumn for luck. We saw some deer with large antlers. We had a look at an exhibit about Roald Dahl’s book The BFG and learned how to draw the BFG.
We learned about Heraldry and what some of the different symbols and colours represent. Then we made our own coat of arms for our castles.
We had a look at the equivalency cubes and had a little introduction to decimal places and percentages for the whole, half and quarter fractions.
Vin practiced a page in his handwriting book.
We had some Halloween fun, designed and carved pumpkins, dressed up in spooky costumes, drew scary Halloween pictures, made toffee apples, decorated little wooden spooky pictures, and made scary fairy cakes.
