27 June - 10 July 2022 (weeks 26 and 27)

Last week we went on holiday to the Netherlands to visit the Efteling theme park! We had a lovely break.

This week we made a scrapbook of memories. We listened to Efteling songs, Vinnie drew some lovely pictures and comics and chose lots of photos to print out and glue into his scrap book.

Vin wrote the two postcards we bought to send to his friends.

On a few days this week Vinnie did some typing practice. We tried another website but he wasn't keen again. Then we found a website where you can play the old "Mario teaches typing" game! He liked that one a lot more and has been practicing typing letters on the home row and getting familiar with them.

Vin chose some fun activities about Mexico. We found Mexico and its capital city on the globe, read how to say hello and how to count to five in spanish, read about Frida Kahlo's self portraits and made one of ourselves. We did some colouring and cut out and played a cactus shapes memory game. Later in the week Vin also did a sheet with mexican things to find and count and drew a picture of things he'd like to see if we were to visit Mexico.

At Communigrow this week the children learned about water, why it's important, how to water plants efficiently and how and why you can save water in the garden. We saw different courgette plants that had been planted either in regular conditions or in a no dig bed with lots of leaves over the compost. This preserved the water in the soil so it didn't evaporate as quickly and the plants were a lot larger and healthier.

The children all made a self watering pot for a lettuce plant out of an empty bottle with a piece of fabric dipped down into the water below the soil.

Vin was a busy bee and helped to pollinate the flowers on our indoor chilli plant using a cotton bud. We recapped how they need to be pollinated in order to grow fruits and how as this plant is self pollinating, it doesn't need a separate plant's pollen but it does need a bit of help to get the pollen in the right place.

We visited Manor park and went for a nice walk and a play with friends.

We tried a few more pages in the telling the time activity sheets.

We did a yoga club though we skipped a bit of it as it was the same as one we'd done very recently!

We did some more from the English anthology book and puzzles.

We also looked at environments people live in around the world and talked about what things would be different in every day life if we lived there. Vin practiced typing by typing in some ideas on the computer.

It's been a bit hot to go out very much lately - we did have plans to go for a bike ride but it's been a bit too warm. We did get a few new books from the library though and have been doing lots of reading.
