Vin's Learning Journey

 This week we went on a few walks including finding a few geocaches! It's been a while since we looked for any. While out walking we saw someone had decorated their front step with "Happy Pongal!". We looked up what Pongal was and found out it is a Hindu harvest festival. We also walked through the orchards and saw all the trees and looked at how they trimmed some of them into specific shapes, some were cut right back so they had a lot of branches and some were trained along wires. We built a new Lego boost model and spent quite a lot of time building different bits for it and programming the different things and experimenting.   We read a book called "Remainder of One" together and did the maths along with the story and talked about how you could divide numbers by other numbers but if they don't divide exactly there are some left over. This week in the School of Music book we looked at and listened to loads of percussion instruments from around the world.   For writing practice we printed out some of the letterjoin sheets with tongue twisters and jokes on and made up our own jokes. We also did a sheet with symbols and codes to solve. We finished the puzzles from the Mystery in Time magazine.  We did another 4x12 speedy maths quiz. This time adding and subtracting in 5s to 50. This one was a bit trickier so we'll try it again next week! On a mystery theme, we solved a "maths mystery" where we had to solve various puzzles in order to narrow down a list of possible birds that a feather belonged to.   We read a short story together that was on the author P.G Bell's website based on characters from a series Vin is currently enjoying "Train to impossible places". Vin drew a picture of a character from the book and we sent it to the author who really liked it!   We finished the Camping Adventure ...

 We've got active this week with a Cosmic Kids Yoga, Hey Duggee workout, some ring fit adventure, and a walk and trip to the park. We've practiced handwriting single letters again but speedy! We did some more pages from the Maths camping adventure book - working with money, coins, solving puzzles and looking at symmetry.  We had a recap about the difference between joking, teasing, and bullying. We talked about what we can do if we see someone being treated badly, why people might act in an unkind way, and identified examples of different behaviours, cut them out and glued them in the right place. We played the What's the time Mr Wolf board game. We read the Mysteries in time story book about Max and Katie's adventure in Ancient Rome. Vin built some more of his model helicopter with his Grandpa. We did another maths speedy quiz sheet, 4 sets of questions adding and subtracting in tens up to 100.
