29 November - 5 December (week 48)

 We are starting to wrap up (!) a few of our topics in time for Christmas so we can do some more festive activities.

This week we did another hey duggee workout.

We only practiced letterjoin on one day but did a little bit of writing in other activities - Vin wrote a birthday card for a friend and a thank you note.

We talked about tooth brushing (again! after dentist visit last week Vin needs a bit more help with it!) , read and watched videos about how and why we brush our teeth. We got an app where you catch pokemon if you clean them up while brushing your teeth which shows you which teeth to brush so you don't miss any and Vin has done much better getting every tooth. He also likes that it takes a photo of you and he can decorate it!

We did the Aztec page in the "Mistakes in Time" book. We learned some more interesting facts in addition to the other Aztec activities we've been doing.

At Communigrow this week, Vin helped to put leaves in the raised for the worms to help compost over the winter and he also helped to plant some spinach beet seeds and gingko tree seeds.

 

We visited the library to collect some more books and Vin sat for an hour reading some books there as well.

We watched the fourth video on the Lego Build to launch site and made some paper plans in different shapes to test which ones flew best.

 

We did the last Aztec puzzles and colouring from mysteries in time box. We matched some countries to their capital cities, looked at where the mayans, aztecs and incas had lived, did a word search, and coloured in some pictures.

 

We read another frog and toad story and did a quiz about the months and seasons of the year. 

We did the next TEAM activity about being kind. We talked about the different things you can do that are kind,  and why we are kind to others. 

We did the tenth and final activity in the Mystery Science "Energy" theme! It brought together all we'd learned about the different types of energy, the transfer of energy and chain reactions. We built a chain reaction machine to turn on our "torch". We drew some ideas then experimented with various ideas to create the rube goldberg machine. It helped to remember what one of the people on the earlier videos had said about working backwards from what you wanted to happen and how you could get to that point.

 

We did a mini escape room in our house. Various puzzles were hidden around the downstairs rooms and we had to find them and solve them to get a number.

 

We dug up the red carrots Vin grew.
