27 September - 3 October 2021 (week 39)

 The start of the new month! We noticed September had 30 days as we updated our calendar each day.

We also practiced some handwriting, again using sheets from letter-join but also on one day Vinnie wanted to practice writing in a different way. He wanted to find an interesting fact to write about. At first he wanted to find something out about Hong Kong. On the sidebar of the site we used, there were other places listed and he was intrigued by a particular photo which turned out to be the Tiger's Nest monastery in Bhutan. So we read about Bhutan as well and Vinnie wrote a fact and drew their flag.

 We read about classical music in our "School of Music" book. We learned about the different classical music periods and listened to some examples of music from the different styles. Vin had enjoyed picking different genres from the page last week so we also found some more examples of that too - this time Villenella, mariachi, Bollywood, lieder and a sitar player.

We did the next Mystery Science lesson. It was about energy! We made a model of a proposed fairground ride and noticed how the more energy was stored in the elastic bands, the faster the ride went.

We started a new Mystery In time box. This theme was all about the Aztecs. We read the story book, found Mexico on the map and stuck the time period sticker on.

We read a lot of books this week.

We did another "Aiming High" activity. It was all about how different people have different skills and interests and what jobs there are that use those skills. We thought about what our skills were and what jobs would suit that.

We did some maths puzzles from an activity book.

Vin finally wrote in the last 2 books for the Summer Reading Challenge. He read the 6 required books in a matter of days back in July so we had all the rewards but I said he couldn't officially claim his medal until he had written 6 down on the sheet!

On a couple of days we worked some more on our patchwork squares for the big patchwork art that is going to be made. We finished them and will drop them in next week!

We practiced writing in an activity book, finishing some sentences using "joining words".
