13 - 19 September 2021 (week 37)

This week we have continued practicing joined up writing using sheets from the letterjoin website. We have practiced all the letters now so will try them a bit smaller next and then more words.

We've been updating our calendar each day too.

Vin has done lots of good helping with snack and lunch preparations. He's been sharing fruit and snacks out fairly, picking and washing grapes, and chopping up apples.

We did some puzzles from the Wild West magazine from Mysteries in Time and also gave the magic card trick a go. We used the cards to make up a board game too. We laid out a board with the cards and had to move our counters to each card and roll a 12 sided die then multiply the die by the card. Vin extended the board with some more cards too after I took the picture!

Vin has been playing out in the garden every day this week, riding around on his trike. He got some rope out and had fun tying his trike and gokart together and towing one with the other.

We thought about what our "Star Qualities" are. We chatted about the different things that make people unique and what their strengths are and what we thought our own strengths were. Then we chose one to draw a picture of.

We read some more of the book we got called "The School of Music". (I might have forgotten to mention we started this last week). We read more about the characters in the book and what we would learn about. Then we listened to Ravel's Bolero as the percussionist mentioned it in the book. 

We found some quizzes on the Woodland Trust website. We matched some trees to their labels then took some multiple choice quizzes to ID trees by their leaves or their berries or nuts or seeds. We used some printouts as clues although they seemed to mostly have different trees so it was quite a challenge! 

We played cat crimes a couple of times this week. We also played Dungeon! again. (And Vin won again!)

Vinnie counted out his pocket money and spent some at the shop. He added up how much his shopping cost and how much change he would get.

Vin made some more animations on Scratch Jr. He did a great job drawing some of his cuddlies to be characters. I couldn't get on with the touch screen drawing controls at all but he had a lot more patience than I did!

He also did some drawings on paper, drawing some race cars.

We took the gokart to the park and saw an Elephant Hawk Moth caterpillar on the path.

We finally finished the animals and habitats through time mystery science! I think it took us over a year. We did more of the mini mysteries over the past year so got distracted. We had a recap of the things we'd learned about how the cave had changed over time and then Vinnie answered some questions as if he was one of the things found in the cave.

Books from library are same as last week.
