19 - 25 July (week 29)

We had a bit of a quieter week this week.

Our beans are growing really well and we had our first couple of meals with home grown beans.

We had a go at panning for gold! We got a kit in Vinnie's Wild West Mystery in time we headed out to the "river" in the garden to find treasure! It was fun and we found a lot of chunks. Vin wished it was real gold. We wondered if the fools gold would react with anything as gold itself is very stable and not very chemically reactive. Vin suggested vinegar. We put the pyrite in vinegar and after a few minutes we prodded it a bit and it crumbled! We couldn't find anything online that suggested pyrite would dissolve in vinegar so we wondered if maybe there were a lot of other impurities in the pieces that did dissolve. It was a bit of a mystery!

We read the Wild West book too, and Vin found a page in one of his older Phoenix comics that was all about the gold rush too.

Vin had a go on the Lego Digital Designer software. He made a minifigure. I think he prefers building with the real stuff even if the digital lego bricks are unlimited!

We had fun playing the Google doodle olympics themed game. It was interestiing to see the different characters from traditional japanese folklore and to spot ones we recognised from other japanese things like other games and cartoons.

Vin has really enjoyed a new cartoon he found called Grizzy and the Lemmings so he has been watching a lot of that and laughing a lot and recreating some of their silly antics with his own cuddlies. He's also been rewatching the Tintin cartoons and we finished watching the new Duck Tales series. so quite a tv goggly week!
