21 - 27 June 2021 Summer has started! (week 25)
Things definitely seem to have taken a under-the-sea kind of theme lately. There has been a lot of Octonauts watching! (and go jetters too!)
We also found a video of Maddie Moate and Greg going scuba diving near Bali , which Vinnie said was "even better than Octonauts!". This inspired us to look up where Bali was, and then look up some photos. There was some amazing scenery and temples.
This then inspired Vin to look up some Chinese temples too. We looked at different photos of China - cities, the great wall of China, pagodas and the Forbidden City. Vin wondered why it was called the Forbidden City so we looked it up! Only emperors and their special guests were allowed to go inside.
We went to the shop and chose some fruit to chop up and make fruit leather. Vin cut up some apricots (and ate rather a lot too!) and we added rasberries and a cherry and blended it all together. We put it in the oven for a few hours. It was our first time making it so we accidentally left it for a little too long and it became a bit crunchy like fruit wafers! It still tasted really good though.
We had some other nice fruit this week too -
We made each other some little Morse code messages using sticks and buttonsWe did some puzzles from a comic together as well as some puzzles from the Ancient Greeks magazine.
We chose a notebook for Vin to use to make a note of fun things he'd enjoyed doing each day and he has drawn some pictures in it.
We finished our Greek vase. After much discussion of what kinds of things the Ancient Greeks would have depicted on their vases, I went for a modern day "every day" scene of a lego minifigure skateboarding, and Vin went for more of a Greek Mythology theme with a 4 armed lego monster!
We drew the things we took pictures of last week into our nature journal and looked up what they were.
Vin got some practice using the computer and typing to find things on the lego website. He focused really well using a PDF of some instructions to work out what bricks he would need to buy to build a specific thing and then searched on the lego site to find the right pieces.
We played Cleudo together and the Crystal Maze board game.
We took a virtual tour of the world's largest cave - Hang Son Doong in Vietnam. It has areas where the ceiling has collapsed and plants and vegetation has grown. Some of the trees are over 30 metres tall!
We played with some of Vin's sea creatures toys and the lego divers. We also looked at a magazine about the ocean.
We played some Rush Hour puzzles and had a nice trip to the park with friends.
We read the fact magazine for Vin's next Mysteries in Time box - this time about the wild west!
At the weekend we watched some of "Lego Con" which inspired Vin about making lego stop motion videos so we will do that next week.
Books being devoured from the Library this week:
