2021 26 - 30 April (Week 17)

After 2 weeks off to pack, move house, and unpack again, we were ready to start doing some more fun activities again!

This week Vinnie has drawn loads of pictures. He's been drawing a lot of vehicles and castles for Bowser and his friends! His drawings have been becoming more detailed and thoughtful and it's fun to hear the stories he tells about them.

Vin planned some fun party activities to celebrate the first day of home ed in the new house!

Every day Vin did his 3 minutes writing. We decided to focus on going quickly this week and Vin managed to do 2 pages of activities over the 4 days so he was certainly faster. He was still pretty neat and accurate too so overall did very well.

Vin made a board game for us to play. There were forfeits and maths questions.

We set up the nerf gun targets and took turns answering lots of times tables. Each correct answer earned a nerf dart and once we had 10 darts we could try and knock down the targets. Then we added up our score of the number printed on the targets.

We did some more practicing telling the time this week. Over a few of the days we read some of the "Telling the Time" book and we took turns setting a time on the clock and the other person had to copy it on their clock and work out what time it was.

We looked at the map from Vin's mysteries in time subscription and answered the bonus question from the Wartime britain box. We had to identify some of the European countries that were Nazi allies or were occupied during the war. We noticed Sweden and Switzerland hadn't been occupied despite being surrounded and wondered why. We looked it up to find out.

We played a 3 times table memory game where you have to match the times table to its answer.

We did a few things on the Mystery Science website over the week. We watched a video about flowers blooming in the spring then we made our own flowers that bloomed when you put them in water! We learned how the water expands the paper which makes it move, the same way plants and flowers use water in their stems to move.

We watched some of the mini mystery videos about if it was possible to turn invisible and were dragons ever real? We continued our animals and habitats through time theme learning about why do dogs wag their tails. We filled in a field journal while watching different types of animals to see why it was beneficial for them to live and communicate in groups.

We played some maths games. We each rolled 3 10-sided dice and made a number with them. Then Vin wrote down our numbers and added them together. Or subtracted the smaller one from the larger one.

We also played the bus stop game and Vin played it on his own for some time too. He played a bit on the prodigy website too.

Our new Mysteries in Time box arrived before we moved but we didn't have a chance to look at it before it was packed away! This box theme is Ancient Greeks. Vin and I enjoyed reading the story book and will do more of the activities next week.

We have also read some other books together this week. We read one of the Anna Hibiscus stories, a book all about Water and how to look after it so everyone has enough to drink and use, and some other books. Vin has enjoyed being able to reach loads of his books as they are all on a bookshelf in his lovely new bedroom! So he has been doing a lot of reading.

We visited some of the new playgrounds near our house a couple of times during the week and had fun exploring and spotting all the flowers that are blooming.
