We found a new game online this week. It's called Dreamscape. You read stories and answer questions about them to earn different kinds of curency you can build a little town with and train creatures etc. It was OK but I think a little overcomplicated (the game side of things anyway - the reading stuff was very easy for Vin) so I think we probably won't play it much again.
Vin did his 2.5 minutes writing every day, having a reminder of writing the alphabet neatly and some words in preparation for learning to start joining up the letters.
Vin played Prodigy maths on a few of the days this week - he answered questions about telling the time, 3d shapes, 2 and 5 times tables, addition and subtraction, comparing numbers and patterns. I have been setting the level at things he is fairly familiar with to start with so he can get used to how it asks the questions but I have started introducing some more challenging things now.
We read about the kinds of games Elizabethan children would have played and we played hopscotch together with the same instructions Elizabethans would have used.
We have a lovely book from the library about birds. On several days we read some of it. We looked at videos on youtube of the smallest bird - the bee hummingbird, we got the tape measure out to compare our dimensions with those of some birds such as the emu and the harpy eagle. Vin enjoyed a funny poem about birds. We practiced drawing some birds, and we also got our birds sticker book out and did some of that while looking up the birds in the stickers on the RSPB website to listen to their songs and watch some videos of them.We visited Bedgebury Pinetum. We started a "Nature Journal" so we could draw pictures of things we found interesting. We saw a buzzard flying high in the air, spotted new shoots growing on the trees and flower blossoms and fungi. We also had fun climbing on all the play equipment.
We started reading the next "Mysteries in Time" book! This month theme is "Wartime Britain". We will carry on with that next week when we finish reading the book.
We did a Cosmic Kids yoga adventure. It was the Christmas one!
We did the next Mystery Science activity in our Animals and habitats through time unit. We learned about natural selection in the population of green anole lizards when brown anoles were introduced to their island. Afterwards we watched some videos of lizards and read about some scientists that study them.
Vin enjoyed a bit more of his "Maze Quest" book with mazes through history. We read some facts about Ancient Greece, the hanging gardens of babylon, the Romans, Constantinople and more.
We watched a "Supercharged Science" video about the planets and how scientists detect what they're made of. We enjoyed some facts about the planets but later on it got a bit too indepth for Vin's age (and interest level) so we didn't watch the whole thing but we did enjoy it and Vin later said it was really interesting.
We did a word search of feelings and talked about what kinds of things made us feel the different ways.
This week Vin has been reading:
The train book visual history
See inside Trains
Mister Lemoncello's Library Olympics
Bunny vs Monkey series of books
Lots of old phoenix comics
65 Storey Treehouse
Lots of other books I didn't see what he was reading...
And we've watched a few stories on Vooks website.
