2021 February 28 - March 7 Spring is springing

This was week 9 of 2021 Home ed! We did a bit of an assortment of things and I totally forgot to take many photos.

At the weekend we did an orienteering and geocache style challenge at the Nature reserve. Vin had to use the compass to find various landmarks and also use coordinates to find different places around the park. We also spotted some interesting boxes on some of the trees which we looked up when we got home and found out to be dormouse boxes.

We watched an interesting video about marine biology - we learned a bit about bioluminescence, the different layers of the oceans, robot submarines, chemical reactions and underwater volcanoes.

This week we went up to 2 and a half minutes of writing a day. We decided to use the workbook so Vin had some things to copy and because we are going to start practicing how letters join together to make joined up writing! We did it each day but on one day Vin really wanted to carry on past the time so he could do the last 2 pages of the first practice book and move onto the one with the joined up letters!

We finished the puzzle pages from the Elizabethan Mysteries in time box. We also found some facts about Tudors and Elizabethan times on the National Geographic Kids website. We watched some videos on youtube made by English Heritage about life in Tudor times and watched a video of Jousting. Vin remembered he had seen one of the Maddie and Greg "Let's go live" videos on their channel had been about castles so we watched that too. They visited Framlingham castle and we learned a bit about heraldry, trebuchets, jousting and that Mary Tudor had lived at that castle.

Vin did prodigy maths game on several days this week - some of the topics included 3d and 2d shapes, adding within 100, estimates and units, place value.

We read lots of nice books including a "geography quest" book called Journey into the Earth. It was about super volcanoes and we answered loads of questions about different geographical things to do with volcanoes and finished the quest!

We went to the library and picked up some nice books. On the walk there and back we spotted lots of lovely flowers and leaf shoots. There were daffodils and crocuses. We explored a large fallen tree. We also went to the park and saw lots of birds and had a little look for frogspawn but didn't spot any. We didn't go to the main wetlands area though, only the lake and streams which wouldn't be great places for the frogs.

We played the Brain Train game a few times too. We even did some of the more tricky ones. Vin has practiced adding up so much now he is doing really well.
