23 March - 5 April - Castles week and Police week

The past couple of weeks we have done "PE with Joe" on youtube every morning at 9 o clock. He's been putting on a daily workout because all the schools are closed and everyone is having to stay at home.  We also decided to have a different "theme" each week. The first week was castles. (It's been hard to get pictures of some things because Vin is drawing a lot at the moment so as soon as the activity on one side of the paper is done, it becomes drawing paper!)

We got a really cute book and wooden castle to piece together. We had fun acting out the story from the book and making up our own stories with the characters. We also had fun with a castles sticker book and read a bit about what life was like in a castle while making some fun scenes. Vin did the whole sticker book during the week.

We watched Maddie Moate's new live show on youtube too a couple of times this week. It was about birds on one day. We did another page in our birds sticker book about blue tits and starlings and looked them up on RSPB website to watch a video and listen to their calls.

We started another maths mystery- this time the mystery of the easter egg smasher! We did this one over 2 days.

Vin wrote a sheet with balloons that had spaces to write all the different ways he is amazing :).

We got a new picture atlas. It was fun to look through the different countries. We picked out some of the landmarks in the pictures and had a look at photos of them on the computer. Vin liked St Basils cathedral in Russia.

Vin enjoyed reading "The Dragon Detective" by Gareth P Jones this week. He drew the characters a lot! These are just a few of his drawings.

We read a poem about castles and then answered a quiz about it. I cut up the questions and hid them around the room first because Vin loves finding things! We did another one like this with facts about castles too.

We did some jousting in the garden!
The "number castle" made another appearance. This time instead of pom poms we added ghosts from the "ghost fighting treasure hunters" board game that Vin's been enjoying playing recently.

We read Comparing with Cats and Taking away with Tigers and set each other challenges.

Vin had a lot of fun building castles with the magnetic tiles and then decided to make some nets for 3d shapes for me to assemble.

On the Friday, Joe set a challenge to make our own exercise routine. Vin came up with one for us to do together at the weekend.

Vin cut out pieces and glued them down to complete a patterns puzzle.

We had a fun afternoon reading about castles and knights and doing the activities from an activity book. We drew dragons, armour, knights, helmets and swords, our own coat of arms and even a menu for a castle banquet.

The next week, Vinnie chose the theme "Police".
We did PE with Joe every day again too to keep us healthy when we can't run around outside as much or go to any playgrounds.
This week we also started learning a bit of Dutch as Vin and I have Dutch ancestry.
We did another maths mystery as Chief Inspectors investigating a missing football! It was a bit tougher than the past ones so we did a bit over 3 days. We had to work out what time it would be on a clock 10 minutes later than one pictured. It was quite a challenge! Another challenge was working out inverse maths statements using multiplication and division. This was a new concept for Vin too so we learned a lot doing this mystery!

Vin made us some Police ID cards and wrote a newspaper front page about some ongoing crimes.

We made a 3d police car by cutting out a template and sticking it in the right places. Vin did some really neat snipping!

Vin made a police station from his duplo.

We watched another Maddie Moate show this time about the human digestive system. We cut out our own version and put it on Bear. Vin remembered the process really well and talked through it a couple of times to show Bear what was happening to his honey sandwiches! He even drew a picture of it a couple of days later, so it obviously stayed in his mind!

Later in the week Vinnie recorded some videos of himself for friends and family and edited them in iMovie on the computer. He liked playing around making the videos of himself go faster and slower and backwards!

We did an experiment with vinegar and baking powder. We inflated a balloon on a bottle with the gas that comes off when the two things react.

We read about police officers and what they do and did another hide and seek quiz!

We started our next Mystery Science topic - Force olympics! We watched a video about excavators and Vin drew some great pictures of excavators and big machines.

Such a busy two weeks! We've also read comics and books and played board games and Vin's played with loads of lego as usual, had dance parties, been for short walks around the local area and played in the garden. It seems a lot more intense when we can't go out anywhere and have days in different places or just playing with friends.
