8 February - 1 March Will it ever stop raining

It has just been so wet we have done more indoors things than usual. It was also half term so libraries and museums had some nice indoor activities thankfully!

We have continued reading the Anna Hibiscus series of books set in Africa. It has helped us talk a lot about being kind to people and the differences in places people live and their way of life.

We played with the story blocks making up some funny stories.

In Valentine's week we printed off a activity from the Big Life Journal website. There were 5 activities to do (1 each day) all about loving yourself and recognising all the good things about yourself.

We practiced some more about place value, addition and subtraction from Vin's maths activity books.
We played Sums bingo, each sum was double a number plus or minus 1 or 2. We worked out what the double was too. We practiced adding to 100 with 2 numbers using the blocks.

We did a few games about telling the time. One sheet we had to pick a card and then draw that time on a clock.

Vin played with his 3d blocks. He made bowser castle.

Vin did a page about adjectives from his english activity book. He did a Valentine's subtraction sheet I printed off for him and a finish-the-pattern hearts sheet.

We made a Valentine's thaumatrope and learned about why it works. We made Valentine's day cards and baked fairy cakes. We wrote cute messages on hearts and hid them around the house to find. Lots of Valentine's things!

We read a book all about China continuing our chinese new year interest.
We also had fun with food colouring and a salad spinner!

Vin played at the skate park with his friends

Vin played with the maths blocks independently experimenting with fractions, adding to 10 and, of course, making the number blocks characters!

We went to a pirate themed activity morning at the library. Vin made a parrot, searched for hidden letters around the library to make a piratey word (landlubber!), inspected a treasure map for good places to hide loot, made a badge with his pirate name on and got a balloon cutlass!

We looked at some bird stickers and looked them up on the RSPB website to see photos, hear their songs and learn a bit about them.

We went to a old toys theme event ran by the museum. We looked at some old toys and got told about them. Vin made a cup and ball toy, and another thaumatrope! We also did some colouring.

We had fun doing some maths activities from library books : "Fabulous figures and cool calculations" and " a maths journey through the animal kingdom". We did addition, subtraction, place value, and also an introduction to what perimeter and area are.

We read more of our "spot the mistakes in history" book and also read a puzzle book about geography of coastal areas from the library called "deep sea dangers".

We did some pages from Vin's Maps Activity book. We read about Antarctica and about United Arab Emirates. We watched a video on youtube about the Burj Khalifa and saw how high it was.

We made a graph of the vehicles from the book "World's fastest vehicles". I typed the names into a spreadsheet and Vinnie wrote their top speed. Then we made a graph.

Vinnie chose a video to draw along with from the Art for Kids youtube channel. He picked 2 cute snow people. After we had finished drawing along with it, Vinnie added loads of other details to his drawing.

Vin made a bouncy ball from a kit. He had to clip together a mould, then carefully pour different coloured crystals into it. It came out really pretty.

Other than that there's been the usual playground fun, seeing friends, playing board games and a game on BBC bitesize called Galazy Pugs. It was about animals, habitats, materials, plants and humans. And even more stories than usual because of the rain! We have read so many brilliant books!
