4 - 26 October Puppets and fun!
This month we have been focussing a bit more on doing more regular writing practice to help strengthen Vin's hand and to improve neatness and size consistency. We've been playing with playdough before writing a page in his practice book to work the muscles.
We've also been spending a bit of time doing a maths workbook and doing lots of different games to practice number bonds to 10 and 20 as well as place value.

As well as these more formal things we have...
Baked cupcakes!

Made numberland!

Went to Emmetts Garden and spotted dragonflies and then Vin played with his friends for a few hours.

Vin has been enjoying reading the Tintin comics which has inspired lots of drawing of the characters, making pretend newspapers about them and wanted posters. He even drew a picture and made it into a jigsaw for me to do.

Our nearby town had a puppetry festival one weekend. We went to a glowy evening performance in the rain by Cal y Canto, as well as several performances over the weekend from "Di Filippo Marionette", Judith Hope, Puppet Like it's Hot, Rust and Stardust, Thingumajig, and Hikapee. We really enjoyed them all but were particularly inspired by the marionettes.

When we got back on the Sunday afternoon, Vinnie was really keen to make his own marionette! We got some paper and started drawing some ideas at once!

The next day we modelled our chosen ideas. We still need to get some nylon thread so we can attach them to sticks and make them come to life!

We did a lovely jigsaw together that was a birthday present for Vinnie.

We read the book The Dot by Peter Reynolds. It made us think, what would we draw if we just started with a mark on a page, where would it take us? A lot of interesting pictures it turns out.
Did some glueing and sticking in a Top Gear magazine.

We played a game I printed off from a website "www.andnextcomesL.com" . We each had a set of an identical background and some dragons. One person was the "describer" who had to choose a place to put their dragon and then describe the dragon and where it was to the other person so they could pick the correct dragon and place. We really enjoyed it and it was fun coming up with inventive places and ways to desribe it. (The light blue dragon is calmly standing on the path below the castle, admiring the orange dragon's awesome roar!)

We did a mystery science activity about "What would happen if we didn't have a skull?!". We learned about our skull and what it looks like. Then we did some very precise instruction following, folding and cutting, to make our own skulls, with a spooky "BOO!" for halloween!

Vin has been enjoying doing some cooking and helping in the kitchen, he made a crumble topping, practiced peeling potatoes and carrots, and mashing potatoes.

Vin has also really been enjoying drawing pictures recently. He watched the movie Madagascar 3 and drew all the characters from it. I think he is really pleased at the wonderful things he can draw.

We have also built models, played with marbles, lots of lego building and playing, written birthday cards, read a LOT of stories, made a quiz for the cuddly toys, played dice and board games, visited friends, started a new activitiy book about Maps, learned about the continents and Canada, enjoyed a new book with pictures of different times in history with mistakes to spot in each picture- we've done the frst one about the stone age and learned some interesting facts. Vin and his dad visitied Bodiam castle and saw the wildlife photography exhibition there and answered some quiz questions.
