7 June - 23 June Lake Distict Holiday 2019

We have been on Holiday to the Lake District. Before we left, we bought a map to see where places of interest were located.

Saturday 8th
We visited Wray Castle, played outside in the playgrounds there, practiced tying various knots and pretended to go camping.

Sunday 9th
We walked up the coppermines valley, learning about the mining that is done there and seeing some of the ruins of the old mining areas.

Monday 10th
We rowed our dinghy to the island on Coniston water. Vin has enjoyed reading the Swallows and Amazons books. We took a ride on the Steam Yacht Gondola and learned about the places around the lake and about the yacht. Vin had a go at steering.

Tuesday 11th
We went to the Lake District visitor centre - Brockhole. We played in the playground, read animal facts about the animals from Beatrix Potter's stories, learned about bees and played mini golf.

Wednesday 12th
We walked up the hill known as "the Lion and the Lamb".

Thursday 13th
We visited the World of Beatrix Potter exhibition. There were models of lots of the Beatrix Potter stories. It was very cute! We went on a car ferry back over the lake.

Friday 14th
We walked up "Cat bells". We learned a bit about erosion caused by people walking there.

We visited "the Puzzling place" in Keswick. It has loads of optical illusions, holograms and puzzles. It was a lot of fun.

We drove to Ashness Bridge - one of the most photographed bridges in the Lake District. It was very picturesque! We went to the Bowder stone too - a large boulder. Vin found a good place to set up a shop selling fine moss covered bark and bracken.

Saturday 15th
We visited Grizedale forest and did the "Zog trail". It was very pretty.

Sunday 16th
Father's Day! We saw loads of bees and interesting birds. We made our own board game with a father's day theme. And made our own pizzas for dinner.

Monday 17th
We went back to Wray Castle. We travelled over from Ambleside Waterhead on the boat. We looked at honeycomb, Vin dressed up as a bee and as a knight, we built some castles, had a game of snooker (with some slightly modified rules...), pretended to do lots of cooking in Peter Rabbit's house. Then we caught the boat across to Brockhole to play there again. Vin found a pinball game which involved having to add up in 10s.

Tuesday 18th
We rowed to the island again. This time there were dozens of dragonflies! We had lunch at the farm that was the setting for Swallows and Amazons.

Wednesday 19th
We walked around Rydal water and saw the impressive Rydal cave. We had fun with echoes. We also visited Tarn Howes and found some geocaches and had an ice cream.

Thursday 20th
We went to the Ravenglass and Eskdale railway - Vin's choice for a day out! We rode on the train and had fun in the museum, had a go with the cogs, and made a nameplate rubbing, checked out all the engines and Vin dressed up. On the way home, we stopped at England's deepest lake - Wast Water

We had a great trip!
