gymnastics, animals and weather

We've been practicing some sums recently by playing different games. We have a game called "The Bus Stop Game" where you have to roll the dice and add or subtract as people get on or off the bus. We also use dominos for adding and try to find 2 dominos with dots that add up to the same number. We also play a game called "Shut the box" where you have to turn over numbers that add up to the same number as 2 dice. Kylo Ren is a particular fan of this game!

Vinnie and his dad worked together to build a robot from a set that Vin got for his birthday. It turned out pretty well!

Vin got out some of his summer activity sheets that I'd made again. He could do them so quickly now! He put the alphabet magnets in the right places on the sheet, and could put the word and number for the counting sheet on so fast!

We will print off some winter and christmas themed sheets soon too and he can practice cutting them out and sticking the right answers on or even writing or drawing them in to make it a bit more challenging.

We did some more weather themed "Mystery Science". This week it was reading a story about getting ready for a big storm. Then we made a windsock to hang on the new shed. I suggested Vinnie could use the letter stickers to write a weather themed word on the cup. He chose "Cloud".

We went on the Edinburgh Zoo website and checked out their animal cams! They have webcams for their penguins, tigers, squirrel monkeys and panda. While we watched, we looked up where in the world the animals lived and what the weather was like there. We also stuck the animal stickers onto Vinnie's magnetic world map.

Vinnie had a trial lesson at a gymnastics group. He really enjoyed it so will start going regularly next year.

Whenever we go to the library, Vinnie always manages to find good books that match what we've been working on. This week I found a fun book of weather experiments. And Vinnie found a book about a hurricane.

He also (completely unintentionally!) found a book about the artist Marc Chagall. We haven't done very many artist things this month with the facebook group but it was interesting to read about.

We practiced writing some more weathery words and then each chose a type of weather to make a "Lego postcard" of. We were inspired by this page in the book "Lego Playbook".

I chose to make a sunny weather scene, and Vinnie chose snow and ice.

He then had fun making little sleighs for his minifigures to play in the snowy scenery!
