Fun with apples, leaves and Go Jetters!

The past couple of weeks, Vin has started being interested in learning to write. We've been practicing a little bit more than usual from his comics so he can see the "correct" way to form each letter. I've been keeping it very laid back still though as don't want him to feel pressured about it!

We did some activities from a Sarah and Duck comic, ready for fireworks night! Of course, Sarah and Duck came to help too.

I was so proud of how well he concentrated with the writing activities. We had a good laugh when his toy Sarah had a go at writing too. See if you can spot her rather unusual handwriting attempts on the page :)

As it's apple season, we made some fun decorated apple slices! We got some toppings - choc chips, banana chips, and raisins and stuck them to our apple slices with nutella or appelstroop. Vinnie's favourite topping was nutella, raisins and choc chips. My favourite topping was nutella and banana chips!

Vin liked the Sarah and Duck comic so much we did some more the next day! We made a pretty autumn leaf picture.

We've collected lots of fallen leaves and sticks from the local woods and parks too so maybe we will make a real leaf picture too soon!

We made some lovely lemon flavour cupcakes.

We helped the other volunteers at the park to make a "bug hotel". A habitat for insects and invertebrates to live in over the winter. Vinnie helped by carrying the logs over to where the pile was being built, gathering lots of leaves from around the park into the wheelbarrow then pushing the wheelbarrow back and tipping the leaves onto the pile. It will be interesting to see what we can spot living there over the next few months.

We played hide and seek with friends!

We played at the park

We looked at lots of books

And built so much lego!

Vinnie did some fun activities from his Go Jetters comic. He glued bits down in the right place to make his own grimbot, and we learned how to draw the go jetters!

Vinnie wanted to plan out the activities he wanted to do. Normally he tells me what he'd like to do and I write it down on a list so we know what things we're going to do that day. This time though, he wrote his own list without me!

It says:

Vinnies list (he wasn't sure how to spell "list" so it is an l and then what he calls "joined up writing" - lots of squiggles!)
Lego truck
Fun

It was a good plan!

For halloween we made some spoooooky ghosts!

Vinnie also spent a bit of time practicing writing with his new Spider-Man book.

He concentrated really well, I think he will be so pleased when he can write more on his own!

I've noticed that Vin has got a bit more controlled at glueing things recently. He has also been willing to have a try at a bit of cutting with scissors although he still asks me to finish things off if he is trying to cut out something in particular. He is taking his time a bit more with trying to write and not just getting frustrated or joking about it. It's good that he has wanted to try things rather than giving up straight away or not even have a go. Hopefully it will help his confidence a bit.
