Vin's Learning Journey

 Last week was the Queen's jubilee celebrations so we had it as a bit of a half term holiday as there was already a couple of days off! Vinnie went bowling for the first time (and got a strike on his first go! perfect beginner's luck).  We read some information about the Queen and talked about the jubilee celebrations that were held for the silver jubilee and the diamond jubilee. We did a yoga club too and went for a long walk (well 4 miles anyway) along some nearby fields and saw a cute bunny. Other than that, we played games and we had family round for a meal and had a good relax.   This week we read lots about honey bees. We read the page in the Exploring Nature with Children book, then found some bee themed activities and facts to do. We did some word unscrambling and labelled a diagram of a bee.  We had a special outing to Herstmonceux Observatory Science Centre this week. Vin and his friend had a lot of fun investigating all the displays and experiments. We enjoyed watching a talk and demonstrations about materials, including a hydrogen explosion! We listened to a talk about the telescopes too. At communigrow the children all went round the field looking at some of the herbs and plants that they could use to cook with that day. They all chose an assortment of leaves and made pesto to enjoy with some pasta. They also gathered some salad vegetables and made a salad. We did an Andy's wild workout set in the rainforest and a Cosmic Kids Yoga adventure Club with a mermaids and pirates theme. We read about Vikings in Vinnie's mystery in time magazine and Vinnie also got a book from his room about Vikings so we could read some other facts and compare.  We started this week with an Andy's wild workout about all the little creatures that live in the undergrowth.  We read about ants and their life cycle. We learned about air pressure by blowing up rocket balloons and letting them go and then a round balloon and seeing which moved faster. We read some funny poems and did puzzles /questions about them and wrote some rhyming words. We enjoyed the sunny days and sat outside to play some board games. At Communigrow Vinnie did a great job helping to weed, and to plant some cuttings for them to sell. Afterwards we went to the nearby playground with his friends and to the library of course! We read about and looked at pictures of different types of homes from around the world. We thought about how they are the same as ours and the ways they were different and wondered what it would be like to live in them.
