11 June - 16 July - Vikings continued and an odd mish mash of learning stuff

We continued our Viking theme with some fun papercraft models. We cut out and made a Viking Helmet and a Longship. We also looked at 3d models on the computer of a helmet, axe and longship and talked about them. We printed out and learned to play a board game that was popular during Viking times and could have been an ancestor to modern chess. Hnefatafl! We printed some activity sheets with Viking runes. We chose Viking names for ourselves and wrote them using the runes. We learned about the Norse gods and had some sheets to decode runes that spelled their names. Vin made up his own Norse god. He is a Jotunn (which are the giants). We read lots of comics and did puzzles from them. We watched quite a few of the BBC Bitesize daily 7-9 year olds programs, including ones with poems, decimals, rhythm, the Romans, states of matter (solid, liquid or gas) and did some activities from those. Vin played the Karate Cats maths game on the bitesize website. We solved the Portrait Galler...
