Feelings, being kind, and numbers! 4 - 28 February 2019

In February, we have chosen a theme about being aware of your feelings and being kind to others. Vin also chose to learn lots about numbers as he has had a sudden interest in it.

We've watched videos on the BBC supermovers website which has fun videos of maths things such as number bonds and times tables. This has led to lots of time spent adding and subtracting different lego blocks and talking a lot about what adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing means and when you might use it. We've practiced counting in 2s and 5s and particularly linking 5s to telling the time. I think it's slowly starting to make sense to Vin!
We've also enjoyed the Maths Quest books - like choose your own adventures but with maths puzzles to answer to go the right way.

We've also talked a lot about feelings, what makes us feel different ways and how that makes us act and behave.

We drew some pictures of different feelings.

We talked about what things make us happy. We made a cake as nice treats can make us happy!

We went to the Lantern Parade. It had a space theme so was a nice finale to our last theme!

Vin lay on a big bit of paper and I drew round him. Then he decorated his outline and wrote on himself different things that made him feel happy, excited, sad, frustrated and loved.

We made a decoration for Valentine's Day. We also made nice cards for each other.

Vin drew a really cute picture of his current favourite cuddly.

We bought a set of cards with different mindfulness activities and we have been trying them all out.

We went to the library fun day with some friends. There was a trail to find different characters and Vin did some fantastic writing. He met the library lion - and bravely had his photo taken with him!

We read a book called "Have you filled a bucket today?". It's about being thoughtful and kind to other people and yourself. Vin did a kind thing for a friend, making a picture for her as she wasn't feeling well.

We've been playing lots of games with numbers such as Orchard Toys "the Bus Stop Game" and "Shut The Box".

We've been doing lots of things to be kind to ourselves, making sure we enjoy being outdoors, get exercise and eat healthy food. This topic has been a lot more about talking and doing things so has been quite a contrast to last month! We haven't added anything to Vinnie's notebook this month whereas last month we added a lot of things! I feel like Vin has really started showing a good understanding of numbers and why we use them though and he is enjoying things with sums a bit more instead of being stressed out by it.
