Fireworks, diwali and glowing! 3rd November - 18th November 2018
It has been a "light" themed couple of weeks! As well as an assortment of other things too.
Our Guy met his end on our mini bonfire for Guy Fawkes night, along with a few fireworks.

Vin independently came up with some craft ideas, he is finding the new scissors so much better and is a bit more confident. He made a laser for his box and made it into a star wars spaceship, a few days later he used some other packing material and taped it on for hair and drew other features and made a robot head. Another day, completely on his own, he drew some dino pictures with his templates, cut them out and stuck lolly sticks on the back to make puppets. It's fun to see what ideas he comes up with.

We visited Bedgebury to have a go at their interactive app based on the poem the Hunting of the Snark. There were some lovely autumn colours. We went for quite a long walk afterwards too to make a potion for Bowser which required a lot of autumny ingredients.

Vin recreated lots of nice scenes from Star wars using his lego. He asked me to take a lot of photos of them!

We learned about Diwali. We read a bit about what it is, sang a little song and looked up India on the globe and on google maps satellite view so we knew what colours to colour in our map. Vin coloured in the Indian flag too as Diwali is a very popular festival in India.

We made some dough with flour and water and made Diya - little oil lamps. When they were baked hard and cooled we coloured them in after looking at a video of people getting ready for Diwali and checking out what colours and patterns there were. We just put electric lights in ours instead of burning oil. (and a pinecone that Vin found at bedgebury!)

We found a cool template to print out of a Flextangle. It was really interesting to make and play with.

We played with our monster slime some more, and did some slime maths!

We watched a video on Mystery Science about the difference between luminescence and phosphorescence. We played with glow in the dark stars and glow sticks to experiment ourselves! Vin invented some fun glow stick-based games! Some involved rolling them, making things with them and hoopla!

Vin made a little lego fishing rod which made us think of making some cool fish for him to catch! We made quite a lot of different exotic creatures.

Vin wrote a letter to post to Father Christmas.

Vin tried out archery, and made some lovely chalk fireworks pictures at a Home Ed group. Then we all enjoyed hot soup and fireworks.

As well as seeing friends (mostly indoors as it's getting colder!), visiting the shops, going on walks and loads of books, different stories always lead to loads of questions and talking as well as inspiration for our own activities.
