Sunshine and snow storms!

We have had a fun month or so since the last post.

Vinnie's creativity has really soared! He has been making more and more detailed duplo and lego creations, been a bit more confident to try out arts and crafts, made up some wonderful stories, and his reading to himself and out loud have improved even more.

Vinnie decided that 2 of his cuddly animals would like to get married - it was all an elaborate excuse to make some cakes of course!

We made lemon and orange cupcakes for Paws and Vinniebear's big day.

The local museum had a farm themed activity trail. We checked out a lot of the old farming equipment and went on a search to find the answers to the quiz questions. Vin wrote down the answers on his sheet.

For pancake day, we drew and cut out our own pancakes with an assortment of delicious toppings. Vin doesn't often use scissors so it was a good chance to practice his cutting skills. He still doesn't get on with right or left handed scissors but practice will help. After we had made our pancakes, Vinnie decided to open a pancake cafe!

Here is one of the many interesting structures Vin has made this month:

It is a crane. He has made so many things I can't remember them all. There has been a firestation with parking areas for 2 vehicles, a lot of underwater themed vehicles, submarines, shark watching cages, undersea creatures, a cafe with street lights and signs, various laboratories and of course dozens of cars! He mostly uses lego but does still like his duplo too.

We had a bit of fun in the garden making some chalk obstacle courses. Then we drew our own mario kart tracks and got some cars to race round them. We made a winner's podium at the end.

February's museum trip was themed about transport. Perfect for Vin! He got to see his favourite exhibit up close. Then he decorated his own train picture. He spent a long time and took great care decorating it.

Vin has read SO MANY books in the past few weeks. He reads on his own a lot now. He has been enjoying the Axel Storm series of books.

We had a couple of days of really heavy snow. This was the first real thick snow that has actually lasted long enough to go out and enjoy it in a long time. Vin really made the most of it, we had a good few days of building things and snow ball fights and sledging.

We've tried to get in a little bit of pen practice. Vinnie still enjoys his teenage mutant ninja turtle wipe clean activity book.

We've found some frogspawn in the park. We are keeping an eye on it to see if we spot any tadpoles.

Vinnie was given a dinosaur dig kit! He had to use a special tool and brush to chip away at a block of dirt to expose the dinosaur fossil inside. Then he had to assemble all the pieces to make his skeleton. The lady who gifted him with it had also made one and gave Vinnie her fossil too so the dinosaur would have a friend. This was a big help to help piece the dino together by copying the other model.

We also tried out a crystal growing kit.

The crystals are slowly growing. This is interesting to see!

We went on a day trip to Scotney castle. We played in the playground there, looked for birds, and did a tour of the house. We have been there many times before but this was the first trip that Vinnie had a go at the house quiz. We enjoyed looking at the different things in all the rooms.

Vinnie made some interesting abstract pictures with his lolly sticks!

He made some balsa wood aeroplanes and learned that balsa wood is the lightest wood.

We went on a day trip to Blackberry Farm and saw some farm animals. Vinnie's favourites were the highland cattle. They had fantastic play areas and Vin was so brave and climbed up a big high net!

Vin tried a bit of origami. Then decided it was easier to tape the paper together! He made a boat and floated it in the sink. Of course the lego then had to have a go too!

Vinnie got out the activity cards from his TMNT activity book and saw that the 3 sheets they had come from had pictures on the back that made 3 puzzles of 9 pieces each. He managed to unjumble all the pieces and make the 3 puzzles independently. He concentrated really hard on this and didn't give up! He really likes the ninja turtles at the moment!

We went to a bee information session and looked at some bees through a microscope. We also saw which flowers are good for pollinating insects. Vinnie says his favourite insect is the drone fly.

Vinnie made a lovely picture of a spinosaurus to give to the lady that gave him the dinosaur dig.

We did the first bee survey of the year at the park. We saw a lot of queen bumble bees and honey bees. Vin really liked looking at the queen bees up close.

We went to an art group and Vin did some beautiful pictures. He had a go drawing round a template and colouring it and also drew a tree he could see out of the window. He did really well at having a go even though he wasn't particularly keen at first.

March's museum talk theme was spring flowers. We saw some pretty Victorian cards that had flower paintings and embroidery. Then Vinnie made his own lovely Spring flower.

The warmer days have meant more trips to the playground too and Vin is noticably braver and more confident climbing and playing on the equipment. He is getting so big and strong!
